Here's some software utilities that may help solve problems with some Sierra games that just don't seem to be working right, or might be useful in causing a game to work with a special configuration you're using. You'll also find some other non-Sierra MIDI utilities that may be useful to you on this page. Quest Studios does not endorse nor support any of these utilities but is simply making them available for your use. For specific support, you may wish to contact the author of the software.
If you have any Sierra or other MIDI related utilities that you'd like to share with others, please don't hesitate to do so! Write me at tom@queststudios.com.
MEDIA PLAYER OGG CODEC |
A Windows Media Player (or any other DirectShow application) codec for Ogg Vorbis digital file playback. Supports Ogg Vorbis, Ogg Speex, Ogg Theora, Ogg FLAC and native FLAC. |
This ZIP contains a SysEx MIDI file which will turn parts (channels) 2-10 off on Roland CM-300 and CM-500 modules, as well as many other Roland GS devices. This is especially useful for those who route MIDI output through a Sound Canvas to a LA synth and need to silence the GS channels. The "Partsoff.mid" file will also correct LA synth playback problems with some older Sierra games when played on the CM-500, in 'Mode A'. Simply play the "Partsoff.mid" file prior to using the LA synth for other purposes. A "Partson.mid" SysEx MIDI file is also included. |

This utility program by Anders Olsson will modify most Sierra games to run on an MT-32 using a SoundBlaster (or compatible) card as the MIDI interface (instead of the standard MPU-401.) It will work with almost all Sierra games created from 1988 to approximately 1994. |
|
If you have a sound card using a MIDI port address other than 330H (i.e. 300H), you can use this program to change the address in most Sierra DOS-based games released from 1990-1995 (King's Quest IV and later.) Benjamin Carter's MIDI Port Changer changes to any port number and has the familiar Sierra-style interface. |

Another utility program from Anders Olsson which enables MIDI support for Sierra's AGI adventures. Works like a charm, but be sure to read the included documentation for proper use and limitations. |

MIDI-OX 7.0 is a Windows XP (also Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000*) program. MIDI-OX is a multi-purpose tool: it is both a diagnostic tool and a System Exclusive utility. It can perform filtering of MIDI data streams. It displays incoming MIDI streams, and passes the data to a MIDI output driver or the MIDI Mapper. It can convert any type of MIDI message into almost any other type of MIDI message. You can generate MIDI data using the computer keyboard or the built-in control panel. You can even record and log MIDI data and then convert it to a Standard MIDI File for playback by a sequencer. |
|
The purpose of this utility is to test and try SysEx (or any other MIDI message ) with your synths or other MIDI devices. You can also use it as a means to change some settings of your synth or MIDI device. Furthermore it may serve as a MIDI monitor or as a handler for MIDI bulk dumps. This utility is currently being updated; check author's website for latest version and information about purchasing. http://www.bome.com/midi/sendsx/ |
