Sierra Classics
Welcome to the Sierra Classics soundtrack page, affectionally known around here as Sierra's "Geriatric Page." Yes, this is the 'old-timers' section of the Sierra Soundtrack Series site where you'll find music from Sierra's first color adventure games, before MIDI and digital audio were supported. Do you remember inserting the King's Quest disk into your 5-1/4" drive and booting right into the game? PC Junior and Tandy 1000 users were especially fortunate in that they were able to hear 3-part audio tracks instead of the single-voice PC speaker beeps.

This page is dedicated to the pioneer Sierra adventure gamer. Those of us who remember that big upgrade from CGA to EGA so we could truly appreciate these new, sophisticated "3-D animated adventure games." With the help of some die-hard AGI fanatics, we've been able to extract the original music from AGI games and convert them to MIDI files. But that's not where it ends....  What if these old games really did support MIDI? What would they sound like using today's technology? But don't worry . . . most of the songs are still presented first in their unedited, original format.

Special thanks to PETER KELLY, LANCE EWING, and JENS CHRISTIAN RESTEMEIER
for their help in extracting the original music from Sierra's AGI adventure games.

AGI General MIDI Version
The Black Cauldron
"Outside Opening Theme"
Boy, this one takes me back to a time when upgrading my PC to 256K RAM required a bank loan! Arranged by Tom Lewandowski. For General MIDI.

AGI General MIDI Version
King's Quest - Quest For The Crown
"Introduction"
Who'll ever forget this one? I believe this is the first 3-voice musical soundtrack ever to appear in a computer game. Arranged by Tom Lewandowski. For General MIDI.

AGI General MIDI Version
King's Quest III - To Heir Is Human
"Closing Theme"
More from the King's Quest series, and the last to focus on the PC speaker for sound. King's Quest IV gave us MIDI and SCI, though AGI versions were also available in limited supply. Arranged by Tom Lewandowski. For General MIDI.

AGI General MIDI Version
Mixed-Up Mother Goose
"Opening Theme"
This was such a sweet song; the perfect score for this game. Additional arrangement by Tom Lewandowski. For General MIDI.

AGI MT-32 Version

  • King's Quest (Quest For The Crown)
  • Space Quest II (Vohaul's Revenge)
  • Leisure Suit Larry (In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards)
  • Police Quest (In Pursuit Of The Death Angel)

Relive these four classics with authentic PC speaker sound!! The included MT-32 SysEx patch bank* utilizes Mark Seibert's "Single Vox" timbre which emulates a computer's speaker very nicely. See the included text file for complete details. For the Roland MT-32.

  • AGI MT-32 Version

    Thexder
    "Introduction"
I didn't remember this being so l-o-n-g-! The embedded MT-32 SysEx patch bank utilizes Mark Seibert's "Single Vox" timbre which emulates a computer's speaker very nicely. For the Roland MT-32.

    MP3 Version

    Roland ED SC-8820/SC-8850 Version
King's Quest 3 - To Heir Is Human
    "Introduction Theme"
Woah, does this take me back to Sierra's glory days! The music will start off with the familiar 'Tandy/PC Jr.' speaker beeps, then progress with piano, strings, voices, horns, and more. Please note that the "Roland ED" MIDI file is only compatible with the Roland ED Sound Canvas SC-8820 and SC-8850 sound modules...so that's why there's also a MP3 file available. Written by Margaret Lowe, and arranged and sequenced by Tom Lewandowski.

    MP3 Version

    Roland SC-8820/8850 GS version

    Roland SC-55 General MIDI version

    Yamaha XG version
King's Quest 3 - To Heir Is Human
    "Closing Theme"
    UPDATED MP3!
Originally written by Margaret Lowe, the music now takes on a "hero's victory" feel -- a reward for a quest well done! You like brass? We got brass up the ying-yang. Tons of strings, horns, voices, wind instruments -- a bonafied orchestra at your disposal; over three and one-half minutes of it. The MP3 version was recorded from an original MIDI file containing over thirty tracks -- combining both the Roland Sound Canvas SC-8820 and Yamaha SW60XG synths to create a full-blown orchestra.

Because of the limitations of General MIDI, the GM version lacks the same fulness as the original SC-8820 MP3 version. The GM version is designed for Sound Canvas SC-55 GM. The Yamaha XG version handles the polyphony and contains all the tracks of the SC-8820 version, but unfortunately, still lacks the SC's sound quality. Arranged and sequenced by Tom Lewandowski.
