I have a very strange request and hope someone here can help me...

I've resurected an old P150 MX DOS 6.2 system, which used to be my music computer.  It has FOUR ISA SLOTS!  I've installed my SW60XG, an AWE32, and a MPU-IPC MIDI interface into this puppy.  The hard drive is only 2 GB and is the only one I could get working in this old PC.  (It's very fussy.)  As I type this, the system is up and running in my garage, on my workbench.  I'm getting it all cleaned up, software installed and running before I bring it inside to use with my other music computer.

However, I have a problem.  Though the AWE32 and MPU work fine in DOS, the SW60XG requires some settings be changed, and that's done through Windows.  (The I/O address; the rest is accessible through DOS.)  The PC doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, and I'd rather not take one out of my other PC to install in this one.  Plus, I don't want to install Win98 on it -- Win3.1 would be great.  But, I can't find my Win3.1 diskettes anywhere!  I've had both Win3.1 and Win3.11, and I've torn through everything trying to find the disks -- they've simply vanished, or fell in behind something, somewhere.

Does anybody have a copy of Win3.1 or Win3.11 they'd be willing to send me, via email, one disk at a time?

I have Windows 3.11 for workgroups on my webpage server. http://s-island.mixnmojo.com/stuff/win311.zip
I originally put it up for someone else and I'm gonna take it down over the weekend. The zip-file contains the 8 floppies in separate folders. Just put them on 8 blank floppies and you should be ready to install Smiley

Must be my lucky day.  I just found it also at:

http://www.peteweb.com/oldos.php

There's a whole bunch of goodies there!  Thank you so much, guys.  I just finished downloading the eight disks and came here to post that I found it online --- and what do you know.  Here, I thought I was the only one who kept these old OS's around.  I did manage to find my PC Dos v3 and MS-DOS v3, 5, 6, and 6.2 diskettes.  The Win3.11 disks should have been with them; I can't imagine where they went to.

But anyway, thanks so much for the immediate response!  Now, back out to the garage to install Win3.11.

John, I think I'm going to download the disks from treeweasel, too.  The TCP/IP update might come in handy...  Thanks.

For everyone's reference, the official TCP/IP update for Windows for Workgroups 3.11 is found here:

This is hysterical!  Boy, seems like decades ago that I was using this OS.  The Win3.11 download worked great, created all the install disks, and now I feel like I'm in the File Room of SQ5 with Roger.  Windows sure has changed, but it brings back a lot of neat memories to be once again greeted by Program Manager.

Got my SW60XG, AWE64, and my other MPU-IPC (and MT-32) in this baby.  I should throw in the WF192XG card as well, since it's just collecting dust right now.  I hope this weekend, I can play around with some XG conversions, but first I have to remember how to get SpG to recognize the SW60XG.  I've done it before, so I should be able to do it again.  I know it required using an older VAPIMPU.COM driver.

How fun is it to see 'program manager' again. Smiley

I never use DOS at all, though, these days. What exactly do you use it for Tom?

And ****.. I saw that Yamaha SpG driver somewhee not long ago. It's driving me insane about where to find it. I'm sure Google could be of some help.

All the Vapi drivers are available at the Voyetra/Turtle Beach web site.  I acquired an older Vapi driver from a visitor who just happened to have an older version of Sequencer Plus.  Voyetra doesn't make a Vapi driver for the SW60XG (only the TG100); this older version of vapimpu will work with the SW60XG  if configured right.  I use DOS to play old games, and edit MIDI files with SpG.  It's much faster and easier than using a Windows sequencer.

How is faster and easier than Windows, exactly? I don't mean to be rude, I'm just fascinated at how DOS could be quicker in terms of editing a MIDI.
