Hi, I brught the island of Dr. Brain used off of ebay, and now I can't seem to install it. I have a computer that's running with XP on it, and this particular cd is dated 1996. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Greetings,

When you say you can't seem to install it, how far are you getting?  When you put the CD in your drive are you able to run the install file?  I have that game but it's running on an older machine with Win95.  I run the game in DOS mode.  WinXP is supposed to be backwards compatible, but good old M$, sometimes it just doesn't work.

You should still be able to install the game though.  If you could give me a little more details on how far you are getting, and what point your are stuck at exactly, I'll try to give you a hand getting through it.

I'm not familiar enough with XP to give you tips on how to run it with XP's native DOS emulation (i.e. what Compatibility Mode settings to tweak), but if nothing else you can always try running it in DOSBox, an open source DOS emulator you can download for free that runs most Sierra games from this era flawlessly.  I've also noticed that sometimes old installation programs are more finicky than the games themselves, so it might even be the case that after installing Island of Dr. Brain using DOSBox, you would be able to play the game normally with XP's DOS emulation, if for whatever reason you'd rather do that.  However, DOSBox might run the game at a better speed anyway, since it allows for adjustment of CPU cycles.

Of course, with a little more information about the error you're encountering, Ghost Rider or others on the board might be able to offer you tips that will allow you to forego DOSBox entirely and install ordinarily in XP, if that's your preferred solution.

Take care,
-Luke

No I can't run the install file, the only thing that does run is the file that checks to make sure computers specs are ok. The dos emulater sound interesting i'll see about that.

What's the file actually called that you're running to install the program?
