There's someone in ebay trying to sell a MIDI daughterboard (DB50XG). But his picture of the device is not a DB50XG to me although it is a daughterboard. Anybody know what it really is? Here's the link:

It's not a Roland SCD-55.  How do you know it's not an XG db?  I can't make out any of the text ... if there is any ... on the card.  I've never seen a DBXG50, so it would have fooled me.

Here's a picture of the real DB50XG, Tom. The other auction has a daughterboard of unknown origin. Even the chipset on that card is unknown to me.

I've had a real DB50XG and I can affirm with no doubt that it was different from the one shown in the auction's picture. I don't know if yamaha built another version of the card, but al least the one I used to have showed the brands "yamaha" and "DB50XG" clearly on the card, and was bigger (standard waveblaster daughterboard size).

I figured Yamaha would at least stamp their "XG" logo on the DB50XG, which they have.  Maybe that card's a Creative Lab's "Wave Blaster"?  Smiley

Or is it the Turtle Beach "Cancun" db?

Turtle Beach Cancun? Unlikely, because like Roland and Yamaha, Turtle Beach also stamps their name on the card or on the chipsets. Even Creative Labs goes to great lengths to stamp their name on their cards. This card is highly unusual. I will probably email the seller later today to inquire about it and to tell him (or her) that he is not selling a real DB50XG.

EDIT: I emailed him...and it appears I'm not the only one who inquired about the card. Here's his reply about the matter.

"Hi, I have been receiving email from people who tell me the card I'm offering on ebay is not a Yamaha DB50XG card. It appears I may have misidentified the card. For that reason I'm going to cancel this auction. Once I have verified the card's ID I will relist it. If in fact it turns out to be the Yamaha card, I will notify you via email when I have relisted it, if you wish. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Regards, Dennis Ecklund (decklund)"

It just came to my mind that the chips on the card has the MX markings. It may be possible that it is a Diamond brand daughterboard but I am still not sure.

I see the auction has been retracted. It's definitly not a DB50XG, and the seller admits he "misidentified" it.

I've checked that site earlier, the card in the auction does not match any of the cards in the museum. Even the chipset is completely unknown! I doubt if the seller would be able to identify it himself, he appears to know little about MIDI and the card does not have any markings.
