I had a few minutes this morning before work to upload the SC Demo Alistair is referring to in the Contest 2004 thread:

http://www.QuestStudios.com/temp/SC-Demo.mp3

I believe this is the one.  It's a combination of SC-55 and SC-8820 output, but NOT both devices simultaneously.  The MP3 begins with the SC-55 (Rock music), and the rest is the SC-8820.  I'm not positive, though.  It's been a few years since I made it.

Those distortion and feedback guitars don't sound at all like something out of an SC-55 to me. It's a great demo, nonetheless...

Me neither.  It must a different part that's SC-55.  I just don't remember how I did it.  Actually, I'm pretty sure the "All Stars" section of THIS is the SCB-55!

Wow. It certainly doesn't sound like the SC-55 playing 'All Stars' to me!

Sounds like mucho ED. And did you make it? I thought it was a Roland piece! Cheesy

Wow, I have to salute you for that. That's positively awesome.

No, they're all Roland demo songs, overlapped into a short MP3.

Here's the original MIDI (plus the classic, "Star Game"):

http://www.QuestStudios.com/temp/allstars.mid
http://www.QuestStudios.com/temp/stargame.mid

Anyone with a Sound Canvas model can see how it compares to the MP3 demo.  The "SC-Demo.mp3" sounds like it's using much more reverb than what's heard on the SC-55 when the MIDI is played.  Remember, I did nothing with these MIDI files...just played them.  Wish I could remember how they were recorded.  My MIDI setups haved changed significantly over the years and it's hard to know what was hooked up to what when I did the MP3 demos.

Maybe it's really an AWE32.  Smiley

Aha.. right.

In terms of reverb, maybe the MP3 has SC-88+ EFX 'Stage 2 Reverb'?

I *reaaaaaly* like that reverb. So realistic. (Like Hall1.. but better.)  I'd say you used it before but you rarely used/had ED before the last few years.. (i.e. some tracks like 'Blues Bar Theme #3' from LSL6 sound like that they have some variation of this reverb. Obviously they can't have.)

I still bet some instruments are ED now, at least in terms of 'All Stars' (a lot of the earlier bits seem all ED, maybe SC-55 piano). The sax is way cool. But then again, every time I hear that particular rendition of 'All Stars'.. I get carried away into another place. It's amazing, that one.

The "All Stars" part of the SC-demo must be the SC-8820, if you haven't mixed the SC-55 and SC-8820 in the Demo. The Sax parts are indeed part of the SC-8820. The Piano could be of the SC-55 or the SC-8820. They sound pretty much the same in this mid file. Normally the SC-8820 piano1 sounds darker than the SC-55 piano. But here I can't hear much differences.

TOM:
Which are the the other original midi files you used in the SC-DEMO? Hope you can remember.

Does anyone know where to get Roland demo files on the net from around 1996 or newer?
I have many files from 1991-1994, but not many newer files. I only have some files from 1996 that show how the SC-88Pro can perform. (with EFX)

Yeah.. I really want to learn about EFX. It can be very, very useful at times..

I wouldn't mind knowing the other files either. But I just love the way they flow on to each other. They improve the overall piece ten times over.

Moturimi, when school's out this year, I'll be extensively searching for Roland MIDI's. I reckon if you're brave enough to search Japanese webpages, you might have some luck (brave in that you can't speak the language/read the characters but want to search anyway).

Alistair, didn't you get a Roland CD with your 8850, filled with demo song files?  I think the 8850 comes with the same CD that I got with my 8820.  Many of those files are also on the VSC-88H CD I have, except for one directory filled with 8820-specific files.  When I have some extra time, I can upload some of the 8820 demo files.

I already searched the web and could only collect Roland/Edirol files from around 1991-1994. I already had some files that came with my SCD-15.
But I don't have many newer files. Only demo files for the SC-88pro with EFX. You can find these files here: http://www.grandgent.com/tom/scug/demosong.zip
Maybe you don't have these already. Tongue

I bought my SC-8850 on Ebay. There wasn't a Roland Demo CD. Would be great if you can post the SC-8820 Demo Mids.

This CD says 'for 8850' on it, so maybe there's some different ones..

There's certainly a LOT of MIDI's. Some 8850 only ones..
Same version of All Stars as you posted.. on the 8850 it sounds really, really good. Basically same as you posted in that MP3.

I'll post a huge ZIP sometime soonish.

It would be great Alistair if you can post the mid files of the Sc-8850 CD.
I'm waiting for the file.  Tongue

Hi Alistar,

I hope you're still willing to post the Mid files from the SC-8850 CD online.
I know you told me that you don't have much time at the moment.

It's coming, it's coming..

I have major exams this week. 3 down, 4 to go.. if I fail anything, bang goes my extensive holidays (in terms of time, that is) and my wallet (in terms of fees for repeat subjects) for a car, or a Yamaha module...

I finish October 2nd. Cheesy Can't wait.. I'll be here more regularly and will post the MIDI's soon, as well as a few Sierra MIDI's for this site, maybe.

Thought I'd put up all of the midi files I have composed from Roland here. All are demos except for two sets which are comprised of american and jazz arrangements.  They even arranged a few anime ones for the SC-55, like from Kiki's Delivery Service and Totoro.  Smiley

Thanks so much for the demo files, George.
It's great to see how good midi files can sound on the right sound module.
