Leisure Suit Larry song...in real life??

Hey everyone,

I really like the new design.  Man, I need to drop by more and see what's new.

Anyways, I'm currently at work and there are a few internet radio stations I cycle through.  One is Wolf FM (www.wolffm.com) which plays mainly 70s and 80s with a hint of 90s mixed in.  I really like it because they play some really obscure stuff you just don't hear anymore.  I'm constantly reminded of songs I haven't heard since I was 8.

So this song came on, I'm guessing it's from the late 70s and it sounded so familiar.  The song is called "Loves Theme" by Love Unlimted Orchestra.  I had never heard of either.  But then I realized that it sounds almost like the music in the disco in the first Larry game.  I think that's where it's from anyway.  Maybe it just has the same chord progression but I think it's pretty similar.  Maybe it's one of those cases where the composer wanted to use a song and just made a version similar to avoid buying the rights.

I haven't had a chance to look into this, I just heard the song.  Later I'm going to look into this group and hear a sample of that song again.  Let me know if you know this song.  Or maybe this is old news?

Orchestra must have been an "in" term during that period because I think Electric Light Orchestra was emerging around the same time (and boy am I glad they emerged, what would this world be without the roller disco epic Xanadu?).  I'm still at work but had a chance to find a clip and play it and I went back and played the Leisure Suit Larry theme.  It is the Disco/Casino theme I was thinking of.

After comparing the two, they're just similar, but my guess is that the Love Unlimted Orchestra song was an inspiration.  The piano part in "Loves Theme" is what really reminds me of the tune in Larry.  That song has a bit more funk influence while the LSL tune is a bit more slow groove.

Finally listened to it, Jake..

It doesn't remind me much of the Disco, or Casino, I have to say. I doubt it was an influence.

I do love this piece, but it's not very Larry-ish. Sort of similar to the Disco, but that's as generous as I'll be.
