Well, I have never got a MU actually, but a DB50XG. A friend of mine has got a MU15 module and it's got exactly the same sound and specs (but in an external module), so I think I can express my opinion here.
Sound quality: the overall quality is good, although it depends also on the kind of instruments you want to use. In general terms, synth sounds are of better quality than "acoustic" ones (and it has very good filters). Acoustic patches sound, to my taste, quite thin and unrealistic (too "synthy"), and lack the detail and naturality of Roland's sounds. The drum kits are very good, though, far better than SC-55's (and better than SC-88's, I would say). The best part, to my opinion, is the effects section. You've got at least three independent DSP processors with many and great effects. Depending on the model, you've even got a line-in input where you can process an external input. Great.
Specs: I would say that they are good for the price. But it depends on the model you have. The absolute minimum is 32-voice polyphony, 16 parts, 676 voices, 3 DSP's with 64 effects and 21 drum kits, which is quite good for the price. Higher models are better, of course. In general terms, theoretically, the specs are better than Roland gear of the same level. But in practice I prefer Roland (better sound quality, plainly speaking).
But it's after all a matter of personal taste, so you'll make your own opinion when you'll get it.
