Must have missed this...that's great news DrJ! The order in which you'll records doesn't matter to me, I just want this to be good   Aside from Darkmoor Swamp, some of my other favorites from the game (excluding the short cues) include Herb and the Frogs (or just Herb's Shack), The Twisty Tunnel (simple but effective; very distinctive Kyrandia music), The Treasure Cave, Morningmist Valley, Towne of Highmoon...alright, I'll stop now, I don't want to turn this into a series of spoilers  Smiley.

As a side note, it would be great if Westwood was in possession of high-quality tracks from Kyrandia III, though I seriously doubt they exist; the one on Frank Klepacki's page is, if I remember correctly, one that was on one of his CD compilations, while the rest was discarded. Besides, Westwood probably wouldn't be interested in releasing the tracks even if they had them; sad...

Sweet!! Cheesy Kyrandia 2 is nearly up there with my favourite game musics and the music that plays when you're out of Zanthia's house for the first time is in my top 5 of game musics!

There's a remixed version of "Zanthia's Funky Swamp" on Frank Klepacki's site. Look under Songs of the Month in the player at the bottom.

Yes, it's an interesting take on that one. There's also Frank's version of the Caverns theme from Kyrandia I, plus the Limbo music from Kyrandia III (the only piece of music from that game that I've heard in high quality so far). It's really too bad no one will ever make a proper Kyrandia III soundtrack because the music in that one was truly excellent  Sad .

From what I've played of 3 I believe 2 to have somewhat superior music. Incidentally am I the only one that doesn't like the backgrounds of 3 because it's in that really bad 3d rendering that was *extremely* prevalent in games of that time (see Lost Eden and anything Cryo did). It's not *bad graphics* it's just it looked really, really out of place with the sprite characters. Kyrandia II LOOKED BETTER!

Well, let me put it this way, the music in Kyrandia II is certainly a kind of departure from what could be heard in the original. There were several heavier pieces that weren't reminiscent of the more fantasy-style themes in Kyrandia, but they still worked quite well. There was definitely a greater degree of differentiation in this one. I agree with you when it comes to the Kyrandia III backgrounds...to a certain extent Wink. I didn't find them that disturbing, or perhaps I didn't notice much bad rendering the first time I played the game. OR I just don't remember; it's been a long time since I've played it and I plan to complete it again when I find the time (hopefully before I retire Smiley )...

The FM town version of Kyrandia1 has digital music, but it's not only the recorded MT-32 music from the PC version. The soundtrack uses different instrument than the MT-32 soundtrack and is much clearer, the warmth of the MT-32 is missing. If you have played the PC-version you will notice this. For me many songs sound better than the MT-32 version, but some are indeed worse. (e.g. Will'o'Wisp song)
You can find the files here: (trackXX.ogg) http://home.arcor.de/moturimi/Sound/Gamemusic/Kyrandia/

I bought the FM-Towns version years ago. The CD soundtrack suspiciously sounds like a GS transcription to me. It's not a bad one at all, but indeed it lacks the warmth of the MT-32 original.

Hey, one of my old MP3's is in that folder Smiley

What IS the FM-Town version, anyway? Never heard of it..

Many PC games were ported to Fujitsu FM towns platform in the early 90's. This platform was very popular in Japan and is based on an IBM PC system, using an Intel 386 or 486 processor with good graphics, sound and a CD-ROM.
Many Lucas Adventures were ported. (Monkey Island 1&2, Indy 3&4, Loom)

Oh, okay! Thanks for the info.

From what I've heard so far, this CD is pretty awful! It's actually not GS, it's actually just General MIDI from what I can tell.

It sounds really bland, and quite often you can hear where GM doesn't have an answer for the MT-32, either..
(You can also see with the extra GS files on that FTP, that they sound much better than the FM Towns GM versions.)

That said, there are some nice extra 'composition ideas' (i.e. extra enhancements) present I might have to reverse engineer and use in my LOK1 CD. After hearing this quite poor CD, I know I'll have to make one. (I certainly don't believe anything on this CD is better than any of the original MT-32 tracks.)

Have all the people that wanted to get this sample been able to get it? Seeing my vacation is over now  :smt022 I should have more time (or will I ? Smiley) to finish the recordings. Any specific requests?

I for one enjoyed it very much Wink. Easily one of the most memorable pieces in the game. Kyrandia II is interesting in that many pieces are actually short cues (though it has its fair share of longer ones). I'd like to request...well, Zanthia's Laboratory for one, that's a good one in my opinion. Towne of Highmoon would also be great; very recognizable and a longer theme at that.
