I was excited to find the EcoQuest soundtrack on this website, but when I went to find my favorite song from the game (the credits track), I discovered it wasn't there.  How was this little gem missed?!  I remember when I first beat the game I sat there and listened to the song loop for an hour!    hehehe...

Good question.  Are you talking about the game's closing credits?

Yup, the closing credits track when the kid is on the dock waving to the dophin (wow, it's been a long time... but what memories!!!). This song was so powerful for me that i can still whistle the tune right now and I've not played the game for 6+ years.

Hey Ken,

For your information, that track you're referring to is really the second and third parts of the 'Delphineus' theme. And as far as I remember, it (the full Closing Credits) is indeed on the QuestStudios site, or at least was.

I just checked.. yep, it's still there! Called 'Closing Themes'.

Hehe. One of the first Sierra MIDI files I ever downloaded from this site, AND burned to CD. Used VSC for GM in those days. Memories..

Yes I see now. The actual credits song is only in the MIDI files section. Not on the soundtrack.

But yes, it is just a reprise of the delphineus theme. I don't think i realized that at the time though.  I just went straight to the end of the CD to find it! =)

One thing I'm a tiny bit dissapointed in though is that on the delphineus track (#4), it seems the cool synth lead has been replaced with a cheap sounding sample of an electric guitar from the sound canvas.   I'm sure in most cases whoever makes these conversions only has the best intentions of making the song better by changing the sounds. But in this case I believe the original synth lead had more, how should I put this, 'character' to it.   ...Or maybe I'm just too attached to the song the way I first head it.

To be honest with you, every time I listen to the Eco Quest CD (listened to it yesterday actually) after the final track 24 I go back to track 4 and hear the last 4 or so minutes of it again.

I love that SC-55 guitar (Overdrive Guitar) to bits. The only bit of Sound Canvas in the track I think.

And it's not a 'cool synth lead', it's an.. MT-32 electric guitar. Smiley Called 'Overdrive'.

As far as I'm concerned, getting rid of a bad sounding MT-32 guitar (I don't think it sounds good) and replacing it with a very cool sounding, emotional SC-55 one is an enhancement. Tom did EQ1's music very well (though I'm sure he'd do some things differently now). Certainly works for me. But I haven't heard the original Overdrive for a while now.. I'll have to have a listen on the weekend.

Well I've not heard the original version in soooo many years.   And you may enjoy a sampled electric guitar over the original synth lead.  Yes, it is a synth lead on the MT-32, even if it is trying to emulate the sound of an overdriven guitar.  My guess is it's the same MT-32 lead that's on the song "Champion's Welcome Home" at 0:39 ...  The thing about true mathematically synthesized sounds are, that they are 'pure' and sound 'sweet' up and down the entire range of the keyboard. Much more expressive, and also seem to fit much better in the context of an entirely synthesized song.
The sound of the canvas' electric guitar, on the other hand, is only one tiny sample (a recording) of an actual electric guitar being briefly plucked. And then it is compressed, looped, and sped up and slowed down to give you different pitches across the keyboard. This results in a sound that might be described (by synth fanatics) as dull, cheap, or perhaps fake...
Well I could go on about this, but I'm really nit picking here and it's not necessary. Tom did a fine job with these conversions and I know we are all thankful that we can enjoy our favorite tunes from past sierra games at any time.  Thanks so much Tom!!!
