Hey folks,

Just got home, late on a Sunday night. Why? Because I've just been to the BEST concert ever!!

Mark Knopfler, live. Playing some nice new songs and plenty of old classics. 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Sultans of Swing', 'Telegraph Road', 'Walk of Life', 'Going Home', 'Money For Nothing' and of course 'Brothers In Arms' were all amongst the awesome, awesome pieces he played. With plenty of new solos and enhancements throughout as well! Oh, it was really spectacular.

Any 'Straits fans here? Sierra music, weirdly enough, is my favourite type of music.. but in terms of real bands, Dire Straits are my all-time number one..

22 years since he came to my neck of the woods. If he tours any of your home towns, I strongly recommend you go see it!

I have their CD..."The Very best of Dire Straits". Among my favorites are Money for Nothing, Romeo and Juliet and Heavy Fuel. They really rock...period.  Cool

Yep, Dire Straits is great!  My first two albums were "Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms", and "Edgar Winter - They Only Come Out At Night"

I think I still have both of those records... not sure if the turntable still works though.

Gee, I think my first album was "Meet The Beatles", forty-some years ago.  Smiley

I've got that one.. I also have the Alchemy record. Another one as well I think.

Seriously, it was incredible.

Which reminds me, I've got 'Brothers In Arms' on cassette.

All the best musos from Dire Straits were there- Guy Fletcher, Chad Cromwell, etc.. really good night.

<smile..>

Mine might've been 'The Superjesus- Jet Age', but Brothers In Arms and Alechemy probably came first.

I'm a huge Dire Straits fan!
Got all the albums, several bootleg concert recordings, and of course all of Mark's solo albums ("Sailing to Philadelphia" is my favorite so far)

The 1st two CDs I ever bought were 'Dire Straits - Money For Nothing' and 'Peter Gabriel - So', but my big brother "infected" me with the Dire Straits fever when I was just 10 years old. I've been hooked ever since.  Cheesy

Sadly, I've never been to any concerts...

I think the last time the DS did a tour in Israel was in '84 when I was 6 years old, so I missed out on that one.

I'd love to see/hear him perform, but I don't know when I'll ever get the chance (which is a pity since there are a lot of DS/MK fans in Israel).

He played 'Sailing To Philadelphia' on Sunday night Cheesy Excellent song.

Last time he was in Adelaide, my capital city, was 1983. My mother was there! So good he toured Australia again. I'll never forget it..

I remembered you were a DS fan, Ari- something about 'Telegraph Road'? He certainly played that, and the long version as well..

I have Shangri-La here and it's the first experience I have with the man, I bought it without knowing anything about his music and it's brilliant! Smiley

Yep! Telegraph Road is my favorite song of all. I've yet to hear a live version that did justice to that song, though.
The original studio recording is a true masterpiece.
My only gripe is that the song ends in a fadeout...

Well, if you were there on Sunday, Ari.. you'd think again. It was one of the crowd's favourites. Very popular song over here. I suppose Australia goes along with the idea of 'working' people quite well..

I also enjoy Dire Straits' music very much, although I haven't heard all of their albums. I discovered them while listening to rock radio stations and also when I saw the "Money For Nothing" music video, which was incredibly cool! Knopfler is a true guitar master, with a unique & recognizable sound.

Same here. I don't think anybody has! Dire Straits lasted for longer than I've yet been alive Smiley

Yep, their rock was best. But I also loved Knopfler for his blues, jazz, emotional harmonies and sometimes political messages, which can be found in most of his pieces I suppose.. I've rarely heard an artist whose lyrics AND musical ability matched the guy. Though, as my mother was quick to point out, "John Lennon".

Love the MTV Money For Nothing video. Way cool! But I also like the clip of both him and Sting singing it. Money for Nothing's one of those DS songs I've never heard a bad version of. Certainly at the concert it was one of the best as well..

To tell the truth, the Dire Straits, in their original ensemble, weren't around for that long and don't actually have that many albums. I've got all the official albums (except for the 1998 compilation).
The DS began recording albums in 1977, and their last studio album came out in '91 after 6 years of almost nothing at all.

Mark Knopfler's solo career, on the other hand, has been pretty steady for the last 9 years with 4 studio albums and several movie soundtracks
