I don't know if this topic has been discussed before. I was wondering if there is, anywhere in the world, the possibility to hear some real music of the games here we love. I mean, band, groups, experiments or enything done with real instruments.
I've heard about some live perfomances at some game expo, but I never focused if it is true or not.
Have you ever heard some real music of sierra's greatest pieces (or even not sierra)? I would love to.

There was a concert made up solely of game music at last year's Games Convention (2004). The orchestra played pieces from games such as the Final Fantasy series, Mafia, Medal of Honor, Primal, Shenmue, Outcast, Headhunter, Super Mario Bros, The Secret of Monkey Island, EverQuest II, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Starship Troopers, Max Payne 2, Hitman 2, Secret Weapons Over Normandy, Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell.

Interesting, although many of those games are unknown to me (they're too recent I'm afraid). Anyway, do you know if exist any recording of it? Smiley

Last I heard, the arrangers decided not to release a CD of the concert. I do have recordings of the Super Mario and Monkey Island theme, but they were recorded with a hand-held device under a coat so the quality's not all that good. Sad

It's not Sierra music, but I have an MP3 of the London Symphony Orchestra's version of the Super Mario theme. It's quite nice!

I would like to hear the second one (MI theme). Do you think it is possible? Smiley

Were you there too? (at the expo I mean)

Anyway, if I was able to sound any instruments I would really enjoy myself playing some great sierra's tunes.
mmm...thinking of it, I could ask the same thing to some friends of mine that are able to play real instruments such guitar and piano!
Probably they'll think "what the hell is this music?", but who cares? Smiley

In the past, I also tried to convert midi to mp3/ogg using banks of real samples, but it was quite difficult to obtain something enjoyable...

No, I wasn't there...

BTW, I don't rememeber who it was, but someone here made a piano recording of the SQ3 intro. I really liked it.

No no, no April Fools Smiley I was too busy on April 1 anyway.

I'll give more information when there's more information to give. I don't want to spoil it now, especially when there's no specific news (ergo, end results, betas, demos), but we're talking live music, not MIDI mixes (not that there's anything wrong with Tom's/my soundtrack CD's!!).
