Error Message - Unable to Initialize your Audio Hardware.

I installed Quest for Glory 1 (feeling a little nostalgic) and this is the error message I am getting -Unable to Initialize your Audio Harware-.  A little information to help you guys out, I am installing Quest for Glory 1 using the  Quest for Glory Anthology Disk. (Has all 4 Quest for Glory games on it.) Also it is the remade version, 256 Color and 7 meg instead of 16 color and 4 meg.  My sound card is "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 7.1"  I'm running on a 2.1 Speaker setting also on Windows XP.  If anyone could please give me any way to initialize my audio hardware I would be greatly appreciated.  I love Quest for Glory and would love to play the series again all the way through 5.  I will play without the music and sound but if I can get it to work with the music and sound it would be great.

I recommend you try out DOSBox or VDMSound to get sound to work in the QFG games. The first four QFG games were made for DOS and not Windows so a soundcard such as the Audigy will not work with them since it got no DOS drivers. Also, these games were made for soundcards that used the ISA bus, while these new soundcards uses the PCI bus instead.

DOSBox is an emulator that tries to emulate a complete DOS environment to play your games in. It's a bit tricky to get working and I recommend you also get D-Fend which is a program to configure DOSBox to work with your games. You can get it here: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net

VDMSound is a soundcard emulator which emulates those old soundcards so that your DOS games can run with sound and music. It's more automated than DOSBox so if the games run fine in Windows(can be slowdowns and stuff), I recommend you try it out. You can get it here: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=2071

Replace your existing audblast.drv with this. Though there may be a 'side-effect'..

And of course you'll need to be running VDM Sound and the proprietary program Speedset to run the music properly.
