Hello there,

I want to compose some MIDI music using my old MT-32 and my DOS PC. Does anybody know a suitable program for that task? It should be able to sequence MIDI music in patterns or something like that and it should run under DOS or Windows 3.11.

I realize, that I could simply plug my MT-32 into my flashy XP PC and use FruityLoops, but I want it the old way with old software and old hardware. :-)

Anybody got an idea?

Greetings,

Patterns?  I don't know what that is, but you can download the top-of-the-line DOS MIDI sequencer from www.voyetra.com:  Sequencer Plus Gold.  It does everything...except...patterns.  It'll run under Win3.1 as well, but it's a DOS program.  I still use SPG on almost a daily basis, for composing and editing MIDI.

There's also Cakewalk 3, for Win 3.x. Check the MT-32 Resource Center for that one...

That's great. I recently tried that Sequencer Plus thing. Seems really nice. It works fine for me, but I will try the Cakewalk thing too. I already have some experience with newer Cakewalk versions.

Is version 3.01 the newest Cakewalk for 16-bit Windows?

Thanks for your help!

Something I found out the hard way that you might want to note Tom: for Cakewalk 3.01 for Windows, ALL of the setup file must be placed in the following folder in the root directory: "Disk1".  If not, the installer will fail.

Wow, major thread revival Wink

I recommend against Cakewalk 3.01 anyway- as Laust and I found, it was semi-buggy with recording MIDI files, Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 cleared this up for at least me.

@Alistair: I also have Cakewalk 9 on my primary workstation, but it won't run under Win 3.x, will it?

I haven't used Windows 3.1 for a long time, but it runs fine on Win95.
