Hi, I posted this over at VOGONS as well, http://vogons.zetafleet.com but I'm looking to download the original Adlib install disk from WAAAY back in the day.  I'm also looking for Adlib's Visual Composer software, if anybody has it.

Thanks,
Matt Farrow

I do, somewhere.  (That seems like eons ago.)  When (if) I find it, I'll post here.

I certainly hope they will be covered again, as I did not yet get to hear all of them.

My comments:

Mannanan's Theme from the KQ3 intro seems too fast.

But it is very nice to hear how some of these games played on the IIgs.  I'd always heard that the Silpheed IIgs adaptation was the best version for the PC... but sadly never got to see it with my own eyes (or hear it with my own ears!).  I'd be curious to see a sample of that if you ever track it down.

Thank you very much for sharing these recordings with us.  Although done through an emulator which causes a few pauses here and there, as you observed, it at least gives us some better ideas for how the melodies were meant to be constructed... they were trimmed down for the 3-voice Tandy/PCJr, and then completely castrated for the monovoice PC speaker. Sad

Also interesting to me is that the King's Quest theme sounds entirely different from any I've heard before.  Tom has mentioned that the beginning trumpets for King's Quest III are derived from the original KQ theme (back when the PCjr was introduced), and I know that later versions of KQ play Greensleeves, but this seems to be a different theme  from either of those.

Yep -- I noticed a lot of that going on.  What a mess!  ...and confusing as hell...  Post in one thread, and it ends up in another!  (Just keeping you guys on your toes.)

Whether this is part of the SQL problem we just experienced, or a result of updating the forum to the latest version, I'm not really sure.  The update process creates new links to the database, so it's a possibility either could have caused this mess.  Oh well, in a couple of years, it won't be so noticeable.  Smiley

Did you change the database by replacing the whole file with an older one? If you used some kind of updater, there's a chance that it didn't delete the current tables and that's why everything's a bit messed up.

I restored the entire MySQL directory, which includes all my databases (email, forum, control panel, etc.) using a backup created May 31.  (I tried several times using a backup from Jun 8 and 9, but I kept getting the same problem.)  I then went into MySQL and selected 'Repair Tables' for the forum's database.  None of my other databases, as far as I can tell right now, were affected.  That got the board running again.  I then updated the phpBB software from v2.0.13 to v2.0.15, and ran the included "update_to_latest.php" utility, which supposedly does some tinkering/updating to the db tables.  And, here we are....

I'm afraid to do anything else because the forum is now working again, plus, I'm working a very long weekend and don't have any free time to experiment more.

Ahh, ok. Tables can be tricky stuff sometimes. Forget one sentence when creating and it's all messed up :/

And it doesn't help to not completely understand how SQL databases work to begin with.  Smiley

And now it shows two pages for this topic, even though there's just one because it thinks the deleted posts are still around. Tongue

Ehh, it's all done with mirrors.

If this proves to continue to be a big problem, I'll look at restoring again, from the 7th or 8th...when I'm done with my lousy work weekend on Monday.

Tom: This thread is still horked. Smiley

I do not have AdLib Visual Composer, but I do have two versions of AdLib Jukebox.  http://209.157.147.74/~marten/Temp/AdLib/

I searched the web thoroughly and found the following link where both the Adlib Visual Composer and the Adlib Instrument Maker can be downloaded:

http://www.ftp.nsk.su/cgi-bin/bbs2html?pub/msdos/sound

These programs really look old and the interface somehow reminds me (in a good way) of old macintoshs.
