Hey guys,

I obviously need a new adaptor for my Roland MT-32 (running 650 mA can't be good!). Can someone take a look at this Ebay auction and tell me what you think?

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=79253&item=5781657524&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

As in, are the specs what I need. Smiley

Regards,

Hey Alistair -

I'd say no.  My manual says 650 mA @ 9V DC.  What makes you say that can't be good?

<shakes head> My bad, I've got it the wrong way around! I must be tired from filling out Customs paperwork. Smiley

Okay. I'll psot another auction shortly, with 650 mA. obviously the one I have is 500 mA. Sigh!

Any power supply will do, as long as it is at least 650mA. I use a 700mA universal one. Never had a problem with it since. And it just cost me US$3.50  at a local hardware/electrical shop. Don't buy it in ebay, you'll spend much more on shipping alone.

Australia's electronics prices are insane, though- and would the 'in' adaptor fit the MT-32?

What do you mean by "in" adaptor? Here's a picture of mine, notice how universal ones have many connectors for every possible appliance. It also has vents on the sides to dissipate heat, a feature that I definitely appreciate. The connector for the MT32 is the one closest to the bottom of the pic.

Uh, the adaptor end that plugs into the MT-32.

So I don't need to worry about 'overpowering' it? 700/800 is fine, is that right? Or is there a difference between 700 and 800?

Sorry for these questions, this isn't my field of knowledge at all!

Yes, even if you get a 1000+mA adaptor, your MT-32 will still remain safe. It can be greater than 650, but not less than.

Just make sure the plug on the new adaptor has the same polarity the MT-32 needs (and your current adapter has). It should be written on either the MT-32 or the adaptor itself. It's usually an image of the plug with + and - marked on the tip and the sides. If I'm not mistaken, the MT-32 has - in the tip and + on the sides.

One last time- would there ACTUALLY be any difference? I've spoken to a few people and they seem to think 500 or 800 would make no difference.. whereas everyone here seems to think there is a difference.

I'm sorry for the bad questions- I just need to know!! Smiley

It's your equipment, if everything goes fine with your current setup then let it be. If you use your MT-32 in an aircon environment then the low ambient temperature will probably cool down the adaptor, preventing it from overheating. As a worst case scenario, the adaptor will burn out but not the MT-32. Just make sure you are around when it is turned on in case that happens (and hope a fire extinguisher is nearby).

I think I'll leave my 500 mA adaptor for the moment. I can't afford to replace it (had 7 bucks in my account when I checked last week- that was scary!) at the moment and on an ironic note, my new external digital device's US adaptor blew so I haveta replace that.
