I guess that some of you use DosBox for running old games, while some others have a dedicated old PC for that. In my case, I only have a laptop P4 with XP, so emulation (DosBox, VDMSound and so on) is the only way.

I've recently purchased Larry 1 VGA and Larry 2 on eBay, although I've installed them from a version which can be found on an "abandonware" site. My laptop has no floppy drive, so there's no possibility of using the originals; I've purchased them because I like to have the original software when I like the product.

My problem is that in DosBox the configuration utility gives me an error when trying to save the settings, so the game plays always in the standard configuration (i.e., PC speaker -doh!-). I want to use the MT-32 but there's no way to save settings (error creating configuration file). I'd like to know if anyone has experienced this problem and how could it be solved.

Thanks.

I always play my old Sierra games from copied hard drive installations, and have often changed settings when copying the games to different PC's.

I just tried both LSL1 VGA and LSL2's install programs, both of which are on my XP system.  They both ran fine, and both loaded the game after installation.  Have you tired manually editing the resource.cfg files for MT-32 support.

I have had this problem many times before, but you can quickly solve it by disabling "Read only" mode on the resource.cfg file. Then you can run the installation, select the MT-32 for playback and it will save the configuration. Or like Tom stated above, you could just edit the resource.cfg file to include the MT32.drv in the space where you would see the pc speaker driver.

Good luck,

Thanks! Now it works perfectly. Actually, it was a quite silly problem, but I just didn't thought about the "read only" parameter  Tongue
