With the LA-Synth editor, you can manage the patches stored in memory area, and eventually assign them to replace the factory patches.
Here is the procedure with LA-Synth Editor. I'll explain it as if you wanted to create a new blank SysEx file containing some custom patches
- open the Database.dat file with LA-Synth using the Database Menu.
- the database contents will appear in the Database window
- add some custom patches to the Timbre Memory window (by using the Timbre -> Load From DB to Timbre Memory command when the DB window is active) or design your own one from this window
- once you've finished with editing the timbre from the Timbre Memory window, click on the Timbre Bank window to make it active and use the Timbre -> Save Timbre Memory to Timbre Bank in order to store your custom timbre into the bank (in fact, the "memory" area used by the MT-32)
- now, from the Patch Memory window, assign one of the timbres you have in the Timbre Bank to a given patch number (1-128) by setting "Memory" as the Timbre Group and giving the appropriate timbre number from memory (1-64); the used timbre name will appear on the Patch Memory window, near the Patch Number
- here it is, you've now assigned a timbre from the memory area to one of the 128 user-selectable presets of the MT-32. Save your SysEx file from LA-Synth, send it to your unit, and, at the given preset number (1-128), you should now have access to the custom patch you've designed.
If you have a SysEx full of ready-to-use custom patches in memory area and don't want to assign all of them to a given preset number as explained above, you can download
here a set of SysEx files named GSMT20.zip, which contains a bunch of very useful SysEx files (GM mapping, usage of channels 1-8, etc.), and, among those files, there is a first64.tmb file you can send as a SysEx to your unit, which will re-map the 64 presets from memory area as the 64 first presets available from the MT-32. You'll then be able to select all the patches loaded in memory area by selecting one of the 64 first presets on your MT-32 using your MIDI keyboard.
Hope this helps.
