Perhaps some of you might find it interesting that the Dune 2 MIDI files for the MT-32 have been posted here.

There are also mp3-recordings available at the following location.

I consider the Dune 2 music some of the best game music ever created for the MT-32. It really adds to the gaming experience and creates a "desert planet mood".

Btw, is there any development concerning Legend of Kyrandia (especially Hand of Fate) MT-32 Midis?  Some time ago someone on the forum announced that he would be recording them.

Hey, that's great! I've always wanted to record those, but ran into some technical trouble and gave up on it at some point.

edit: WOW! Best damn MT-32 music I've ever heard. Frank Klepacki is a musical genious!

Few people seem to notice this. You can get the idea that theres great game music when listening to the Adlib soundtrack. But the MT-32-soundtrack...now that's about some of the best music in computer games in general.

How it matches the mood of the loneliness on the desert planet or the fast paced action of a confrontation. There are also many nice melodies blended into the athmospheric tunes. Also you can find different kinds of influences from the more classic film music to rock and or synth music.

Hello!

I downloaded the MIDI files from dune2k.com, you mentioned. I don't believe these are the MT-32 ones. When I start Dune II, the game first initializes the MT-32, which supposedly means that it is sending SYSEX information to the device. However, the MIDI files don't do that and sound quite well on a General MIDI setup. So I guess, these are either converted in some way or apply for the Sound Canvas, Dune II also supports.

Are you sure you downloaded the correct zip file? There are 2 versions of MIDI files there: MT-32 and Sound Canvas.

I've played Dune2 with an MT-32 and it sounds the same as these files.

I think I ran into the same problem Locutus did. The links in Alkarion's original post don't work as the site think's it's a leech link. So browsing the site, all I could find was a single download for "9 Dune II midi files" named "d2mid.zip". Is there another, MT-32 specific?

Thanks for your hint. Since the link above doesn't work (because of some leech protection), I had a look at dune2k.com myself. I didn't find any MT-32 files on this page, so I assumed there were no further files to download.

Thanks to you, I had a second look and I found this page. Strange navigation on that site...

The MIDI files work perfectly. I also downloaded some of the MP3 files from this page: Dune2-18, Dune2-4 and Dune2-11

I take it, these are recorded from the Sound Canvas version, am I correct? If so, I believe, either something isn't set up correctly or the composer did a really bad job writing the Sound Canvas score. :-)

Does anybody have some Sound Canvas samples from the Dune II soundtrack? It somehow doesn't sound right...

Or is this actually NORMAL?

The site indeed thinks there's leeching.
Here's a link to the music page.

The 1st link is a zip containing the MT-32 midis.
The 2nd link is a zip containing the SC-55 midis.
The 3rd link is a zip containing the MP3 recordings of the MT-32 midis.

Hope this solves it.

It's good.... but a little weird for me.  Musically, I still think Strike Commander has it beat.  Wink

Thanks for posting the link. There was much debate here about ripped Kyrandia Midi files being played too fast. How did you record? Do you plan to make any other recordings?

Didn't experience hight tempo but instead the tempo played in cakewalk was to low but when playing the xmi files in winamp and an old windows media player there were no tempo problems. Stange...

Planning to record the MT-32 music from Cryo's Dune , i'll post the link here when finished.

Since you already did two Klepacki soundtracks, why not record Lands of Lore?  Cheesy

It's very interesting but since I never played the game it's hard for me to tell how much needs to be recorded.

There are three game soundtrack i'm going to do... Dune, Kyrandia II: Hand of Fate and yes,.. Lands of Lore Wink
Dune is next because i wanted to do this one for some time now.
Most track names of HOF are known so that should not be a big problem.

Most challenging is Land of Lore because i do not have the track names so i've got to play the game (again) very precise. Thats gona take some time.
Keep you updated.

Cool, that would be most appreciated. Lands of Lore would indeed be hard since it's an RPG which usually takes much longer to play through.

Well Dune is finished, you can find it here http://www.filefactory.com/?a27e5d

Did some research on the net and found a site who already had a lot of track names but there still much to do.

Thanks for posting your recording. Though I think that Dune is one of the few titles where the MT-32 soundtrack doesn't really outshine the Adlib soundtrack.

Well I'm really looking forward to the Hand of Fate soundtrack. I played it through with an Adlib back in the day, but I might try it again just for the MT-32 experience. I've pretty much fallen in love with every MT-32 soundtrack Frank Klepacki did; he seems to be an extremely versatile composer.

I disagree. While the Adlib soundtrack is very good, The MT-32 version is significantly better IMO. The custom patches and effects used in this soundtrack make it one of the best MT-32 soundtracks ever made. That and Strike Commander. (Which, incidently, if anyone's interested in listening to, is available here).

ShaiWa: is there a difference between the Dune2 soundtrack you posted now and the one that appears in the website at the beginning of this page?
