Any chance the Kyrandia 1 files are uploaded again? I missed the link and I love that soundtrack.

Also, I always played Dune with MT32 and I thought it was an amazing score, but since I read this thread I'm curious about the Adlib version, anybody knows where could I find it?

The Adlib score was amazing for its day.

I'd like to hear the Adlib Gold version (never could get it to work...)

@NewRisingSUn:
Not sure, think the SC-55. Maybe there is info about that somewhere.

Thanks a lot Shaiwa, I really like that soundtrack! Downloading it right now, and I'll check the Adlib versions of Dune right after I finish. Cheers.

KGB is pretty neat as well. Too bad DOSbox won't support the AdLib Gold.

Personally, I think KGB/Conspiracy is the better of the two.

ShaiWa, to help with hosting the Dune 1 & 2 and Kyrandia rips, I've created torrents from the original rar/zip files you made, including any text files that were included with them.

None of the torrents have a tracker, so I'll be hosting the torrent files from my website. If you wish to help seed them, you're more than welcome to help me do it (I only have a 400K upload, so expect 45kb/s or lower transfer rates).

Kyrandia: http://www.razorstudios.org/torrents/Kyrandia_MT32.rar.torrent

Dune 1: http://www.razorstudios.org/torrents/Dune_MT32.rar.torrent

Dune 2: http://www.razorstudios.org/torrents/Dune2_MT32.zip.torrent

You can post these torrents wherever you want - the more people seeding them, the better.

I've recorded two tunes from Hand of Fate with the SC-55 and the MT-32 to stir up another debate of "which module was the soundtrack composed for".

The tune I chose makes it easy to vote for the MT-32 I think, but there are plenty of other tunes employing distorted guitars which sound much better on the SC-55.

Hand of Fate was composed for the SC-55, and it's pretty bloody obvious.

Add to the debate, I think I still have an email from Frank Klepacki where he told me it was.

And, Kyrandia 1 never had a SC-55 MIDI score, except a converted SC-55 digital one in the FM-TOWNS release of the game.

No problem.

Lots of games around 1993 have an install menu that has options "Roland Sound Canvas" and "Roland MT-32/etc" (doesn't say etc, but can say, LAPC-I, or CM32L, etc).

For example, Apogee's (well, Moonlite's) Hocus Pocus. And quite a few others. I think LoK2 is one. Actually, 7th Guest is another.

I don't know why they said the games have MT-32 support. Generally speaking, the MT-32 driver just plays the GM instruments in the wrong patches (i.e. it's like sending GM files to the MT-32 in default mode). Don't know if that's true of LoK2, but it's certainly true of T7G and HP and others.

Not true with LoK2 - there's an attempt at a conversion, but obviously, the Sound Canvas version blows the MT-32 version out of the water.

There are some Dune II files at the Adlib music archive, but I don't know if it's the Adlib Gold soundtrack.

Anyway, are you sure, that the game music itself is different, if you select Adlib Gold instead of Adlib? Maybe it's just for the digital samples. (e.g. "Worm sign", "Unit deployed", "Building destroyed" :-)

Yes, I'm aware of those files.
I'm not entirely certain, to tell the truth. This is something that needs to be verified.

Unless there was some specific programming done for the AdLib Gold's mixer and/or the reverb module, I would think that selecting the SoundBlaster Pro would provide similar results on any OPL3-based card. If I can find some time, I'll check it out.
