In my opinion the balance is properly cloned when you go into gs mode.
HOWEVER.
When you start doing effects like filtering all this goes out the window!
While balance can be maintained with a different ssoundset if you don't use effects, once you start doing stuff with the resonant filters and insertion effectts, it's going to sound like crap because the efects were designed to be used at the specified levels on very specific samples wich are copyrighted.
Without the original samples, full sysex compatability isn't very useful.
