I don't know what's wrong, but I've been unable to record any digital files in WinXP, using the SB Audigy. I don't get it! I can place the card in a Win98 machine, and it records just fine. Using the LINE IN volume controls, whatever is connected to LINE IN is properly controlled, volume wise. Window's Recorder doesn't work. Cool Edit doesn't work. Digital Orchestrator doesn't work. Windows sound mapper is properly configured. They're all setup to receive digital input through the Audigy. I've been doing this for years without a problem and I think I know what I'm doing. I can't imagine XP would be causing the problem, unless there's some additional steps I don't know about? I don't know what else to do?
I once had an AWE32 that wouldn't record through its LINE IN, but that's not the problem with this Audigy...since it'll work under Win98 in my other PC's.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hmmm...you're not using Win98 drivers are you? That might cause problems. Try XP drivers if that's the case...

Hmm. Can you tell me in detail how you're playing the MIDI file and what settings you're using to record?
What volume for Line In, etc..

Correct me if I'm wrong, Tom, but I think the problem he's having is he can't start recording.

Fixed it. The problem I was having, was
...anything attached to the Audigy's LINE IN wasn't recording. You could hear it just fine, but I wasn't able to record it. I reinstalled the drivers from the CD, then updated to the latest XP drivers, but still nothing would record, digitally.
Finally, I decided to try installing the Creative "Surround" Mixer, instead of using WinXP's default mixer. Still nothing, until I clicked on the SURROUND MIXER RECORD SLIDER, which brought up a menu. I selected WAVE, and that fixed the problem. Dumb, dumb, dumb! It was the last thing I would have thought of.
Now, it's working perfectly. I've rarely used this 'Surround Mixer', and usually don't even install it on Win98 PC's. Strange.

Ah good news then! That is strange, though.

When I owned an 'Audigy 2', I used 'Line In' with no troubles.
