Well OK...

I got bored and decided to recorded compare2005 and (a slightly tweaked for the SC-88) AllStars if you guys are interested, seeing as QS doesn't have any SC-88 compare recordings on the main page.

If anyone's interested I'll post the links.

Sure, here they are:

[SC-88]
Compare2005 (Default Mode)
Compare2005 (SC-55 Mode)
AllStars (w/some patch/eq tweaks)

Could someone with better ears than myself compare the SC-88 recording in SC-55 mode with the SC-55 recording please?  I always wanted to know how close the two modules sounded.

IMO, the only differences I hear could be discredited simply by differences of the recordings themselves (IE: sound cards used, perhaps audio cable quality, compression/normalization of the recordings, or mp3 encoder differences).  I can't really tell any difference otherwise myself.

In other words, to these ears, the SC-88 using the SC-55 tone-map mode, sounds exactly like a real SC-55.  At worst, in the case of the Compare2005 midi I think they sound identical.

The SC-88 sounds very much like the SC-55 in default mode, though there are some noticable (but not huge) improvements in instrument quality.  The balances are right on par though.  Smiley

Yeah, that's the problem with this comparison. Not only is there the different MP3 codec problem, there's the problem if people have normalised, or done anything at all besides making it louder and converting it!
