I have these 3 MIDI tracks that I wish I could hear the MT-32/equivalent version. Can I request anyone here to do the conversion?

The following are details of the tracks:

Game : Death Gate (Published by Legend Entertainment)
Composer : Eric Heberling

Tracks :
01 - Pryan Forest
02 - Merchant's House in Skurvash
03 - Pryan

The tracks can be downloaded at http://dgc.dfxwebs.com/game/

As for copyright issues, Legend Entertainment is no more.  Legend Entertainment was shut down by Atari/Infogrames in January 2004.

These are General MIDI versions. They wouldn't convert properly to MT-32. I could record them with my Roland Sound Canvas if you want. I think they'd sound best on it.

No need to convert them since Death Gate is the last Legend game with native MT-32 support -- although certainly converted from the GM version. (For info, the GM soundtracks of Shannara and Mission Critical are played on the MT-32 via the generic Miles driver.)

Death Gate MIDI (contains both GM and MT-32 tracks).

Note: the GM package available at DGCO doesn't sound like my rip from the game. Not sure which one is wrong.

Last time I played Death Gate, the music sounded like the ones at DGCO.

I tried to check the file that you've provided above but I couldn't open any of the MIDI files in the [GM] folder.
As for the [LA] ones, wow, the instruments sure sound totally different! But then again, I don't have MT-32 so I couldn't tell how exactly they're suppose to sound.

Ah, I was under the impression you wanted the MT-32 files. Of course they won't sound correct at all on anything but an MT-32 :)

Odd. I just ran Death Gate in DOSBox and the GM soundtrack sounds the same as my GM rip, so your own experience leaves me puzzled. As for the files, I'm not sure what you mean by "couldn't open any". Do you get an error message? I can play them in many different MIDI players, and my friends don't have any problem either.

Couldn't open them in my Winamp. No message/warning whatsoever.  The time counter moves on, but no end time specified and no sound. Now that you mentioned it, I can finally play the files, on my Windows Media Player.

Anyway, now that I can listen to them, I recognize the difference. The MIDI files from DGCO are faster in tempo, even though the instruments are the same. The music plays slower in the game. So, yes Kaminari, your rip is the correct one. Thanks.

And uh, Ari/Kaminari, could either of you convert the MT-32 ones from Kaminari's rip, please? I would really appreciate it. Just for the following tracks: Pryan Forest, Merchant's House in Skurvash, Pryan.

Here you go:

Pryan Forest [MT-32]
Pryan Forest [GM]
Merchant's House in Skurvash [MT-32]
Merchant's House in Skurvash [GM]
Pryan [MT-32]
Pryan [GM]

Not quite. Some tunes of the DGCO rip sound almost the same, but many don't use the same instruments. There are three sets of MIDI files in Death Gate: GM, LA and what I assume is OPL or maybe AWE. My guess is that the DGCO files are coming from the latter. Either that or I chose the wrong MIDI driver in the game setup, which is unlikely.

PS: this thread should probably be moved to the Non-Sierra forum :)

Regarding Death's Gate, would I be correct in presuming it's an XMI game?

It's been a while since I extracted the files, but I think they were plain MIDs. I'll check it again.
