Hey guys,

I'm on a quest for one of Media Vision's old, 8-bit Pro AudioSpectrum cards, hoping to satisfy a curiosity. If you happen to have one, or know where one may be found, please let me know.

Good luck with it... Why do you want one?  (I'm just curious) Smiley

Don't I feel silly now, having dumped a lot of my sound card collection in "the great purge".  Other than a couple early soundblasters, an Adlib and AdLib Gold w/ daughterboard, GUS Max and GUS PnP - I have no cool oldies left.

I used to have a PAS and PAS16.  Sorry I can't offer 'em any longer.

Well sure!  Smiley

Still have an Adlib Gold 1000 with additional daughterboard I don't really need... as cool as it is to hold in my hand.  Smiley

And a vintage AdLib which I don't think I'll get rid of.

Cool. PM me your demands. Wink

By the way, it looks like this was a teeny, tiny bit pre-emptive:

Incidentally, there's an Adlib Gold 1000 up for grabs in ebay right now. And the seller is also from Canada. The card even includes the original docs and disks. Might be worth looking into for the collectors out there. There is a reserve though...check it out here.

If I were to keep the card, I would love a copy of his disks!  Smiley

My Adlib gold 1000 does work, I remember using it SIX years ago with some of the original software I found on the web - demo tunes that used the 4-op FM and small digital samples, usually for drums.  Not a bad card for its day, but no comparison to my Roland SC-88 at the time.  Wink

I recently acquired an Adlib 1000 too, but sans software. It would be nice if the well known    winner of this auction would make the software available once he has it.

The PAS has arrived (thanks, Lennart!).

Interesting card. Somehow, it is able to intercept writes to the PC speaker and produce amplified beeps. Not terribly useful, but the closest likeness I've seen elsewhere has required a connection to the SPKR output on a motherboard. Would have been cool had it been able to reproduce the PCJr/Tandy 3-voice music. Ah well...
To my knowledge, there are only a handful of Sierra games that require an original PAS for stereo FM output. I'll try and make some recordings of these this weekend.

It seems many of the early 256-color Sierra games support the Pro Audio Spectrum but not the Sound Blaster Pro.  This is likely because the Pro Audio Spectrum was released before the Sound Blaster Pro.  Does the Spectrum do just OPL music or music and sampled sounds in stereo?

It's capable of stereo PCM, though I think a few more years passed before Sierra supported playback of that sort.

Like the Game Blaster, Sierra's support of the Pro AudioSpectrum had a lot to do with the fact that they sold them as well, IMO.
