I believe either model of the Sound Blaster Pro can work in an IBM PC, XT or any PC compatible system that uses the 8-bit ISA bus.  Both models have a 16-bit connector, but if you look at the pictures, you will see that there are very few pins used on the smaller, 16-bit connector.  In fact, except for a +5vdc and ground, the only pins used are those that all the Pros to select IRQ10 or DMA0.  These are unavailable on the 8-bit ISA bus or XT-based system, so the only downside I see to using a Pro in such a system is that you will have to stick with DMA 1 or 3 and IRQs 3, 5, or 7.

(Naturally, I can think of no software that can take advantage of the Pro's features that is likely to run very fast enough on a system that maxes out at a 10MHz 8086, but is likely to be run on an 8088 @ 4.77MHz.  Also, the Pro may be expecting a standard 8.33MHz ISA bus speed.)

I used to use a 16-bit Tseng video card in the 8-bit slot.  As long as the resources are 8-bit (IRQ0-7, DMA0-3) and the driver does not use 16-bit I/O cycles (outw/inw) you should be fine.
