I was just re-examining my Roland synth hardware, and noticed something about my SCC-1B that I was hoping some kind soul on the forum could please help verify.  Turns out that I am not sure if it is an SCC-1B after all, since although one of 3.5" floppy disks included in the box is clearly labeled as "SCC-1B" and the package includes the added Ballade software that ships with SCC-1Bs, the manual and back of the box only list 317 patches.  I thought that SCC-1Bs were supposed to have 354 though?   Sad   (The reason I thought it was a real SCC-1B was because I remembered reading online that any SCC-1 model that shipped with the add-on Ballade software was by definition an SCC-1B.)

I believe there was an addendum added to the package that notified the user about the extra sounds, so I read somewhere.  The card should have a silkscreened "SCC-1A" I think to distinguish it from the regular SCC-1.  Check yours and report please.  I hope someone else can fashion a test to distinguish the two cards.

Yes, I also remember reading about the addendum about the extra sounds.  Went through the packaged docs, but was unable to locate.  When you mentioned the possible "silkscreened 'SCC-1A'" designation:  by "silkscreened", do mean as printed on the SCC card itself?  Thanks

Compare the silkscreening (white lettering) on the following two boards:

http://crossfire-designs.de/index.php?lang=en&what=showimage&name=images/articles/soundcards/scc-1.jpg&title=Roland SCC-1&num=3

http://www.dearhoney.idv.tw/MUSEUM/Roland_SCC-1.jpg

Now the first board says SCC-1 and the second board says SCC-1A.  Which is yours?

Thanks for listing the pictures to compare.  The lettering on my SCC-1 reads "SCC-1 Main Board" (not "SCC-1A Main Board").  I guess this means it's original SCC-1 -- even though the included floppy disk reads "SCC-1B" and with the included Ballade software?   Sad

Maybe I was wrong in assuming that to the visible difference that proves that the particular SCC-1 card has 354 patches.  Alternatively, maybe Roland put SCC-1 w/317 patches in SCC-1B boxes until they ran out.  I don't think the box advertised 354 patches.  Perhaps the only distinction between the SCC-1 and SCC-1B is inclusion of Ballade and Band-in-a-Box software.  The only way we can ever know for sure is by someone devising a test to determine whether the sounds exist on each board.
