Hi all,

Currently I'm in contact with someone on a local auction site who is willing to sell
me his second hand Roland SCB-55 (SCD15) for .... drumroll : 40 euro's (including shipping).

Now if I'm not mistaken this is a real bargain, right ?
He even has the original floppies included for that price !

I asked for pictures and it seem to be the genuine article.

The thing is, I really have no need for a Roland GS daughterboard as I'm running Win XP Pro x64.
(try finding a PCI soundcard WITH wavetable header AND x64 driver support : next to impossible !)
Anyways I already have a SC-55.
I know, I know the SCB-55 has increased polyphony and better dacs than the SC-55,
but I'm not selling of the SC-55 until a SC-55 MK II comes along ...

Which brings me to the following :
Anyone interested in this SCB-55 for 40 euro's ?
Of course you would have to add shipping costs again ...
Something like 20 euro's to the US, Europe would be less (I know, shipping prices in Belgium suck ...)

Still, that's only 60 euro's for a SCB-55 with original floppies, not bad I would say ...

Of course, this thing could do a lot more on Ebay, but I'd rather give my fellow queststudios-members the first choice ...

Let me know ok ?

It's quite a bargain.
I haven't got use for it, but I'm sure someone else here will.

No.... no I won't

Let's do a little currency conversion and basic math shall we?

Assuming that 40 euros ($50) is your 'shipped to you' price, that's a hellaofadeal Smiley

I paid $120 (95 euro) for my first SCB-55 and it ended up not working w/ SB16 (but did with anything else, go figure).  So.. assuming this new one works and all... even with the cost of it SHIPPED (60 euro) to the US, that's still a savings of 35 euro ($45)!!!  Embarrassed

So yeah, I'd definately jump on it for yourself or any of you lucky lads across the pond.

As for not finding any PCI sound cards w/ waveblaster and x64 support... I'm sure there's one out there (and I'm assuming the more educated peeps on  here will chime in).

I bougt a Dynex 5.1 PCI sound card w/ waveblaster header back when I was testing my SCB-55.  It was had for ~$30 (much cheaper on ebay).  Here's the product link: http://www.dynexproducts.com/p-190-dynex-51-channel-pci-sound-card.aspx

It dosen't list x64 support, so I tried calling their CS support.. THAT was a joke! The guy wanted to know if I had my receipt before he helped me Huh Talk about a script idiot.. so.. anyway, he finally told me it dosen't support x64, but then again he was probably just reading the web page description.  Might be something to look into.

Anyway, it's nice finding little gems on places OTHER than ebay eh?  I scored The Pandora Directive (Big Box) for $10 and Phantasmagoria (CD case) for $5 at some local joints.. I was a happy puppy those days Cheesy

I was just teasing Wink

Yeah, I dug around for XP64 drivers for my santa cruz... none there, either. Good thing I don't intend to go to XP anything... ever.

Mike,

Does the Dynex give any decent sound output from the Roland Daughterboard ?
Is it anything like the SB16 or better ?
Might give it a try and temporarily go back to ordinary Win XP (although XP 64 bit is so much stabler ...)

Is anyone able to give me a list of soundcards still being sold nowadays with a wavetable header on them ?
(no madder if they support x64 or not ...)

Thanks

Cyber,

"Does the Dynex give any decent sound output from the Roland Daughterboard?"

Uh.. well.. it uh... works?! Didn't mess round with it to much.. .but  yeah, it worked just fine on my Dynex in WinXP

It's just a bargin 5.1 sound card w/ Via chips on it... I'm sure since it was made about oh..... 10+ years after the SB16 it's BOUND to sound better.

There's a thread concerning PCI cards w/ headers on them.. located @: http://queststudios.com/smf/index.php/topic,1669.0.html

I used to have both Yamaha AND Roland daughterboards.

Like a big dummy...  I sold them.    Embarrassed

I have a Roland daughterboard now that either doesn't work at all, or my PCI soundcards scrounged from Dell machines do not use the wavetable header (disabled?)

Don't you have a cheap SB16 and an ISA bus computer to test it on?

How do you upgrade your mother-in-law??  Shocked I'm sure a lot of people would really like to hear how you do it.
