Hey Tom,
Just wondering if you've got around to reuploading the SSV1 CD, since it seems you uploaded the rare, but faulty 'original release' which has errors. A complete new rip of the CD would be much appreciated.
Regards, - Alistair

No, I haven't got around to it. If it's faulty, then it requires fixing, which I also haven't gotten around to doing yet. The 'original release' isn't currently posted. EDIT: Updated... SIERRA SOUNDTRACKS VOLUME ONE

OK, I'm totally confused.
As I recall, there were two versions of SSV1. The first version has an incorrect left/right balance issue on many, if not all, tracks. The reissue corrected that.
Alistair believes that the SSV1 tracks on the website today are from the version with the incorrect balance. Tom, you seem to be saying that the versions uploaded are from the reissue.
It seems that the reality can quickly be identified by giving a track or two a quick listen.

Basically, I heard about this from Marten or Caliburn (or both?) a while back. When Tom uploaded SSV1, after a while I realised the last 3 tracks were buggy. As in, their panning or balance was wrong. I think Marten/Caliburn told me Tom bumped his mixer or something and didn't realise. Anyway. It occured to me it was the SSV1 original release that Tom uploaded, not the reissue. Which would make sense. I seem to remember that the whole CD wasn't faulty anyway, which would agree with the current partially faulty upload. Check the last 3 tracks out, they all have the problem. - Alistair

Funny you brought this up, Alistair -- I was thinking about it this last weekend myself.
I was going to bug Tom about it again, but I know he's very busy -- especially since our Tigers are going to the World Series (I'm also a Michigander who's living out-of-state at the moment).
Some of the songs I downloaded in early 2005 have a louder R than L balance. < I also just checked "Track 18 - Eco Quest Closing Medley" from this site today -- still there >
For my own peace of mind, I converted the OGGs to WAVs on Sunday and rebalanced them myself with GoldWave. I know, I know -- OGGs to WAVs are not the best, audio-ly speaking, but it certainly beats my old SSV1 and SSV1.1 CDRs, both of which are suffering from pops and clicks as the CDR medium slowly degrades...
And Tom, thanks again for recording all of this wonderful music -- I don't think I can say that enough...
Gary

Right after HEART OF CHINA, I'll fix the SSV1 tracks and reupload them. (I've been glued to MLB.com and ESPN/Fox Sports since mid-May.)

I've made some adjustments and have re-uploaded the SIERRA SOUNDTRACKS VOLUME ONE digital files. Though I would have liked to be able to take the time to re-record some of the tracks from scratch...this will have to do; this soundtrack was posted primarily for nostalgic reasons, since most of the files are available elsewhere. It was also done before I learned some better recording techniques with the MT-32, so there's still a lot of noise associated with the recordings. The files have all been re-encoded at a much higher bitrate, too. I'll also be re-uploading the original LSL3 digital files as high bitrate Oggs, soon.

Thank goodness- I really like the SSV CD's. I also would love LSL3 and 6 as OGG files, too.

Glad I could do it. Some of those later tracks were pretty badly out of balance (Tracks 15-18, especially.)

Alistair believes that the SSV1 tracks on the website today are from the version with the incorrect balance. Tom, you seem to be saying that the versions uploaded are from the reissue. Sorry Marten, I didn't see this post... What had happened was that I had gone through the majority of SSV1 tracks, correcting the 'balance' issue. However, I never completed the task, though I copied ALL of the tracks (WAVs) to a new CD which I labeled as 'Second Release'. Not all the tracks were actually corrected at that point, but I had forgotten to finish it. (At least 4 or 5 tracks still needed re-balancing.) The corrected tracks, along with those that weren't yet corrected, were uploaded on the old SSV1 page. Now I've gone through ALL of the tracks, and they are all properly balanced. I no longer have the original CD-R that contained the original WAV recordings, and I'm not positive that I didn't transfer the original WAV's to a hard disk ... that I'm no longer using. I haven't checked my own SSV1 Second Release CD to see if indeed, these WERE all corrected. I don't think they were.

So, how'd you make these new WAV files then? Now *I'm* confused. - Alistair

I had ALL of the old WAV's; it's just that not all of them had yet been fixed at the point when I originally uploaded them. I copied both the fixed, and not fixed WAV's to a new CD that I labeled as Second Release. I tossed the old CD at that point, but I still had all of the WAV's on another CD; they just weren't all fixed.
