Yeah...I know...no contest yet.  But it's coming.  Since the 2005 contest didn't actually occur until January of 2006, I'm pushing the 2006 contest completely into 2007.  I want to get this annual event into spring or summer, when it's a less hectic time of year for me.  I'll gradually gravitate towards that goal over the next couple of years.  But for now, I'm planning the next contest to take place in March 2007.

This time, I ALONE will choose the questions and know the answers, so that everyone, even Quest Studios moderators and such, can participate.

Only I will know -- so EVERYONE else will be eligible.  The only exclusion would be someone donating a prize.

Why would someone donating a prize be ineligible? Sounds like that's kind of mean, to punish them for donating, as it were. Also a disincentive.

Because they might win the prize they're donating.

I wouldn't donate an item just to win it back in a contest.  Seems kind of selfish to me, and defeats the purpose behind  "donating" (giving as a gift.)  But that doesn't mean the donator can't participate -- they just can't win.

That's an odd reasoning. If someone's donating something they don't want it back, obviously, like Tom said. Otherwise they'd just keep it. It's not much of an incentive to win something you already have, either.

That's hardly the point- you're not very likely to win the prize you donate.

I don't see how it's 'selfish' do donate a prize to a contest, either..

Besides, there's not just one grand prize, right? We're not talking about me donating prize X, which is the only prize, and I then try and win prize X by entering. I was under the impression there'd be 2 or 3 prizes, as previous contests had.

And my point is, if you're looking for donators, you're not going to get many donations for 2nd and 3rd prizes if you bar them from winning the major prize, for example.

My logic certainly doesn't apply if we're talking about a one prize contest. But that wasn't even in my mind when I wrote that post.

Well then, I think the logical thing to do would be to "bar" the person donating the grand prize, for example, from winning said prize, but not doing so in regard to the remaining two, with the same rule applying to other individuals making donations. That is, the only occurrence prevented would be one in which a specific person would win his own prize; simultaneously, he would be able to receive the others.
