Well, I got the USB/MIDI cable and connected my CM-64 to my laptop and everything is working fine in the MIDI aspect.
The only problem is that my laptop lacks a line-in connection to it's internal sound card, and I am forced to either use headphones with the CM-64 or connect the module to the speakers instead of my laptop.

I'm trying to think of a different approach to this problem.
One solution is to get either an external sound card or a PCMCIA sound card which have a line-in connection, but that's pretty expensive.
Another option is to get a set of speakers which allow multiple input connections, which is an even more expensive option, but since I was going to buy new speakers anyway, it's still an option.
Another option is to get a cable that would split my speakers input, but this would, most likely, destroy my speakers, wouldn't it?

So, is there another option any of you could think of? I really would like to be able to somehow connect both module and laptop to one set of speakers and not have to switch between the two every time I decide to listen to an MP3 instead of a MIDI or vice versa.

A small, inexpensive mixer?

Yeah, the thought had crossed my mind, but I'm trying to bring down to a minimum the amount of stuff on my table...  Undecided

Silly me.  Embarrassed
Apparently, my Laptop's mic-in doubles as a decent line-in as well. Problem solved.  Grin

Edit:
Silly me again. the problem is that it isn't stereo.  Embarrassed

Argg...one-step forward, and two-steps back.  Isn't there a 'cheap' USB soundcard, with line inputs, to be had?

Not that I've seen.
There's been a plague of "Sound card on a stick" USB cards on eBay the last couple of months which have been going for something like 5$ a piece or even less, but they seem to have the same outputs my internal card has. I've been watching eBay for PCMCIA cards but they're still very expensive and rare.

My older Dell laptop used to have a line-in connection in addition to the output and microphone connections. It's a shame they removed it from this model.  Undecided
