Coktel Vision and Dynamix became a part of Sierra.

As discussed elsewhere on this board, Inherit the Earth was re-released in a Windows port (minus MT-32 support, I believe) by Wyrmkeep Entertainment.  Wyrmkeep is currently working on a reproduction of another old game, "The Labyrinth of Time" originally from Electronic Arts.

A MacOS X version of Inherit the Earth is out now, too, and features a digital soundtrack recorded from the original MT-32 score, partly because of yours truly. ^.~ They're considering adding a similar digital soundtrack to the Windows version.

Played FUTURE WARS (most of it, anyway) many years ago.  It was very hard.  Star Trek 25th Anniversary, too.  Great MT-32 soundtrack in that game, by the Fatman.

I loved most of LucasArts games, but they were typically much harder than Sierra games to solve.  Always needed some hints.  A lot of puzzles just didn't seem logical.  An exception, THE DIG.  That was a lot of fun.  I'd like to play that one again, one of these days.

That reminds me, Fancia, I left you a message on Orkut a few months ago after you joined, but didn't get a reply...

Don't forget Legend Entertainment!

Legend released several novel tie-ins, based on such works as the Xanth, Death-Gate, and Shannara sagas. One of their parser-based adventures, Eric the Unready, has some of the nicest MT-32 compositions I've yet heard.

Good stuff.

Oh yes! Gateway (based on a book by Frederich Pohl) deserves mention too.

Some of the Japanese adventure games are quite good; I can recommend Kanon, a romance game, and EVE: burst error, a murder mystery. Snoopy Concert on the SNES is very fun, as well; although it's in Japanese, the language surprisingly isn't required to understand the game. At least Schroeder's scenario is basically text-free.

Come to think of it, I'd like to mention something a bit more obscure - "Bi-Fi 2: Action in Hollywood", which was a freeware promotional game for some kind of German snack. It's a point and click adventure game set in a movie studio with nice VGA graphics and a humorous story line. I got stuck and never completed it, unfortunately. I guess my German (it's not available in English as far as I know) reading skills weren't up to the task.

I believe it is available for PC and Amiga and is freeware.

Legend also put out Josh Mandel's favorite game that he was involved with -- Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, based on Spider Robinson's Book.

Anyone remember Hocus Pocus from Apogee? I recently discovered it has a Roland Sound Canvas score, composed by the Fat Man! It's great stuff.

I had no idea!

Are there any other Apogee games with soundtracks composed with a specific MIDI device in mind?

Realms of Chaos has a SC-55 score as well, from memory.
Duke3D and Wolfenstein do as well, I think, but never played either of them.

Older games are Adlib only, though Bobby Prince has released various Sound Canvas MIDI conversions of Adlib sequences (from Keen, Duke II, BioMenace, etc.). Well, various is probably an overstatement. Tongue

I've tried to convert, but it's intensely difficult.. and especially hard to resequence an electric guitar track from Adlib, for example.

I think that's all of the Apogee games that had MIDI and not IMF scores.. I'm sure I've missed some, though. Some I never played that weren't the cult-platformer style. I never liked the 3DRealms directions, myself.

I was wondering if Monster Bash might have a Sound Canvas score.

Duke3D has a Sound Canvas score, but not Wolfenstein3D - it's strictly AdLib.
I enjoy doing conversions from MT-32 (especially the ones that use only the Default sounds) to SC, and I've posted quite a few on my website at geocities.

Is there anywhere where I might be to download the MacOS X version as I already have the original Mac version from many years ago.

No; it's out by a new publisher, who charges for their new versions. You can get the demo or buy the game for 20$ USD from their website.
