Might also require Creative Labs drivers, rather than Microsoft ones...

Usually, Creative's software is required to load a Soundfont to any of its PCI cards.  I have heard of Windows Soundfont bank loaders, but I wonder if they are strictly for the AWE32/64.  The reason why it may be different is because the AWE32/64 use on-board RAM while the Live to the X-Fi use system memory.

I installed and tried to run AudioHQ, and this is what happened:

I have reinstalled the drivers, but it did nothing.

Also, I am interested in these Windows bank loaders.

BTW, my system is Windows XP SP2

Worst case scenario....  you can use the free program:  XMPlay, which allows you to attach multiple soundfonts regardless of sound card.  Can only play MIDIs within that program for it to work though.

Need to add the MIDI plugin for it to work.

OK, I've pretty much got things in order, but I still have one more question.
What is the best soundfont for old Sierra game, in paticular King's Quest VII?

The Microsoft GS Wavetable bank built into XP is the best for any Sound Canvas game since it's made by Roland and uses the SC-55 sounds.

Except that older games(such as Sierra games)used FM synthesis.

Noooooo.... no no no no.  The microsoft bank might have been intended that way, but it's so dry and weak it bears no resemblance in the end.  It's a last resort, in my opinion.

It's better than FM synthesis.

If that includes the Roland MT-32, then yes.  You'll just have to use "AdLib FM" if you don't have a real MT-32 (or compatible) on-hand.
For the 1/3 of Sierra games that DO support General MIDI, the Microsoft GM set is passable.

If you have a SBLive variant, a decent SoundFont would be much better - especially with some reverb!  Smiley

Get your drivers from here; not Microsoft!  http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

You might need to remove the card's drivers completely before changing them to these ones.

Might want to specify that, then.  I seem to recall you saying you didn't know HOW to do it.
Finding soundfonts are pretty easy....  "Quick, Robin!  To the Bat-Google!"

I presume your current drivers will ALLOW you to add a soundfont?  Don't you have the 2 or 4MB sets that came with your card & original driver disc?

All you have to do is....add it...then. What's the problem? Do you not know how to add it? With my Sound Blaster Audigy there's a program called SoundFont manager. Doesn't your card come with something like that?

The problem is that I don't have a soundfont that makes it sound correct.
