Any interest? Well, too bad. It's no longer available.

No, I meant the Sharp X68000. With the Apple IIGS I'm quite familiar. I guess I wasn't very clear about which item I was asking about...

Why the Sharp X68000? I thought you would have preferred an NEC PC-9801.

No, I meant the Sharp X68000. Here is a good website describing the actual hardware. Mine won't be the twin-tower type, but instead, the easier-to-work-on, boring desktop version. It's one of the more fascinating 16-bit computers ever made, in my opinion. Why the Sharp X68000? I thought you would have preferred an NEC PC-9801.

As an old Apple II fan I'd love to get my hands on a IIGS (back then my parents wouldn't buy me one ) but since I'm in the UK, shipping would probably be prohibitively high.... right? Cheers, Mike

Cheers, Mike Shipping would stink, yes. If only needed the system, sans monitor, it would be significantly cheaper.

There's something cool about custom chipsets isn't there? It would have been awesome effectively having an arcade machine on your desktop way back when. These days though, we have MAME (though I'm somewhat partial to my Neo Geo AES). Here's a show from 1985 that talks a little about msx and why japanese computers never cracked into the west. http://www.archive.org/details/Japanese1985as for the IIGS.. yea interested in the cards but cash poor at the moment. Just taking the cards wouldn't solve your space problem either. BTW: has the CFFA had the 3 wire fix done to it? Also, I can't remember but can the IIGS do 110V and 240V? - wouldn't make much sense importing one when you have to get a stepdown converter.

The Epson watch computer is kind-of neat. BTW: has the CFFA had the 3 wire fix done to it? I e-mailed Rich Dreher just a few days ago, and am shipping it out this week to have the work done. Also, I can't remember but can the IIGS do 110V and 240V? - wouldn't make much sense importing one when you have to get a stepdown converter.
Ah, yes, that is a problem. The power-supply is non-switching.

The only Japanese "computer" [standard] that really made it big in the west was the Family Computer, even though it lost virtually all its few computer oriented features when it came over here.
I'd own a IIgs, but some of the games that used the Mockingboard will (probably) not work with one installed in a IIgs.

<drools over photo of nostalgia-inspiring PC> Wow you can really see the beginnings of Apple's much-vaunted attention to design. I used to play on an Apple IIe, and it looked WAAAY clunkier than this beauty. If I thought I could sneak it into the apartment and onto my desk without my missus noticing, I would be all over this, Eric! Meantime I guess it's emulation for me...

Dave, I have a plan!Oops. (Shh! Shh!)
...
Dave, I have a plan.
If your wife is like mine, she doesn't like it when you add more stuff to an ever-growing pile of stuff. But, if you were to, say,get rid of something in exchange, it's somehow different, and altogether more-agreeable in the mind of the fairer sex.I propose an exchange! You know what I'm after, so for that, and the cost of shipping it to you, the IIGS can be yours. Did I mention that I have all of the original owner's guides/manuals, and that the 340MB MicroDrive is ready to go, with System 6.0.1 and almost all of Sierra's AGI games?

oh Eric you're killing me here! - must. resist. temptation... you forgot the fact that one thing occupies about 4 inches of shelf space, and the other a few cubic feet!! your analysis of the domestic politics of collecting stuff is right on the money, too.

did the x68000 machine turn up? pics?
what's the mystery trade item - I'm curious now!
And yes the IIGS is a great machine - it just needs to be upgraded to get good fun out of it (4MB, disk controller, possibly transwarp), especially if you're trying to run GS/OS.

did the x68000 machine turn up? pics? Not yet. It's on the slow boat from China Japan. what's the mystery trade item - I'm curious now! Dave has a MediaVision Pro3D, with the Korg DB. It's not particularly special, from what I've read, but it is on my list of things to get, nonetheless. And yes the IIGS is a great machine - it just needs to be upgraded to get good fun out of it (4MB, disk controller, possibly transwarp), especially if you're trying to run GS/OS. A Transwarp is the the one thing I lack. If I had that, or some other accelerator, I'd probably keep the system.

Did you get the games for the iigs from an abandonware site or you have the real thing? if abandonware, where'd you find it? i have a iigs emulator but nothing to try it out with ... like to try the SQs on it.

Abandonware disk-images, of course. Check out the Fairway

Hey, before or maybe even after this exchange takes place, I think a little true demonstration of the Apple IIgs' audio capabilities, especially with Sierra's titles, would be welcome here.
