Adlib Gold, for 325,33 or best offer.
Too pricey if you ask me, but hey, it's rare right?  Roll Eyes
Check it out here

Anyways, I'm guessing the seller is a quester, because he refers to this thread.

We were talking about this auction in another thread a few days ago.
It is pretty rare, but other than that, there's nothing very special about the card, especially without the surround module.
Not that I'd pay 325$ for it if it did include the module.

Funny, couldn't find anythin about it, so I opened a thread.
Ah well, I don't like to step on anybody's toes, so if the seller is reading, sorry.
But the prices that person asks are outrageous!

Some rare "vintage" 286 motherboard, for 135 dollars!  Huh

Wangtek 8-bit ISA SCSI Card, US $177.35
ONE-HUNDERD-AND-EIGHTYYYYY!! Tongue

So yeah, I would not give more than 100 personally, and still, the card is -and was- not THAT great.

Yes, but Dune's Adlib Gold soundtrack almost makes it worth it all.

Yeah, almost....  Roll Eyes

And if those frenchies had known how to properly compose for the MT-32, the MT-32 would have kicked it's ass.
Oh well.

The CD version of Dune, unlike the floppy, supports the Sound Blaster Pro 2.0.  Both cards have an OPL3 chipset, so without the surround module there is no practical value to the Adlib Gold.

That surround module sounds like it can easily be recreated in an analog circuit.
It's mostly reverb that makes it sound better right?

I actually had such a setup without even intending it in the first place. When my Adlib Gold was connected, it's output was connected to my SW60XG's line-in and thus picked up some of it's reverb effects. I hadn't even noticed it till I started playing around with the setup, and connected the Gold directly to my primary sound card.

If we can determine what reverb effects and levels are used by the game, then we could utilize other reverb devices, like an AWE32 or the SW60XG/MU10XG to produce the same effect.

Yes, or we could twist all the knobs until it sounds about right, because I don't think it's exactly rocket science. Tongue

Oh, I've already written an experimental emulation for the Surround module in software. The AWE32's reverb seems to be poorly-documented, though.

Reverb, equalizing and stereo processing (Spatial Enhancment/Pseudo Stereo). The SB16/AWE32's mixer chip does have treble and bass controls, but they use different parameters than the Adlib Gold's chip.

Yes, the gold has a pretty high resolution for the mixer controls.
It would be nice to fully emulate a gold in software, so that we won't have to spend 325 dollars.  Grin
