So, I bought a second Santa Cruz off of ebay (for about 20 bucks after shipping!)-- I thought it would be for a second system, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if I should put it in my main system (once I get a system that can handle more than 2 stupid PCI cards regardless of its 4 slots... grrr). I have a DB50 and an SCB-55, and it seems a shame to have ether of those cards not easily at my finger tips! Now I wonder if anyone has done this-- had two identical sound cards in a system before. I've had my santa cruz and my SW1000 play very nicely together, but how about 2 santa cruz and an SW1000?? The only irritant I could see would be trying to remember which is which when selecting devices, though I hope that windows would say "Santa Cruz (1)" or something. Now that these cards are out of production, I thought it would be worth grabbing up a spare-- now that I have mine, I might recommend that anyone else who loves this card or is just curious about it, pick on up while they're still to be had cheap I also hoping to come home with another potential retro system tonight w/ at least 1 ISA slot-- need something to put my 2nd SW60 in

Good luck on that project! Let us know how it goes, and some more info on the hardware/setup/motherboard/OS(!) etc... Me OTOH, just bought a Soyo Pentium4 Motherboard with 4 PCI and 3 ISA, for $33 + shipping... (well, still not quite sure how this will work out, but at least I won the 'auction') If anyone's interested, he's got a LOT of these, going for anything from $33 to $67. 1 left right now for $45 BiN, or best offer. Only thing I'd be missing would then be the SW1000 and SW60, hmm... decisions, decisions... rice and noodles for another month, or....

My current board is an Asrock 755Dual-VSTA-- the retro system is a side project, sorry that i wasn't clear Anyway, there is a thread about my current crappiness in the computer help thread, I think... the system is just REALLY picky and it took me a couple of days to find a configuration of 2 boards across 4 slots that would let the system function normally. I don't know why they put so many stupid slots in there if the system can't use them! That P4 board sounds pretty great! Does it have AGP or is it a server board?

I HOPE it is an AGP board, both the auction name and detailed specs say so, and the 'actual' photo as well. But the small pictures(generic?) seems to be of the SY-P4I845/GVISA Plus ( http://www.soyousa.com/products/proddesc.php?id=335&PHPSESSID=de25760e9a62890a4ca75cfbd928c17a ) Here is the current item for sale: Item number: 180141859107 I've asked about that AGP earlier, but no response to that particular question. But I've already bet my money (literally! LOL ) on that is an AGP, so... I guess I'll take a look on/for your thread, then, to see your current/planned retrohardware setup... (?)

Yeah, that "actual" photo definitely has an AGP port-- it almost looks like an AGP pro slot. The soyo stock photo definitely does not have one My old retro was a dual P-166, but that one just quit working and after wasting a lot of time trying to revive my generations old Tyan Tomcat III, I ditched it it was a sad day. Now I have an old P-350 that I upgraded to a C-1.4Ghz It has an ISA slot, but it too is failing. I'm going to see if this other PC will work (if I get to take it tonight).

While on the subject of motherboards, the one I'm writing this text 'on', is an Abit BH6 slot1, with AGP, PCI and most importantly 2 ISA. (Intel 440BX chipset) Bought in 1998, and still working, hmm... how much longer I wonder ? Used to be part of the world altering combo with Celeron300A, now a Celeron533@850(high voltage and hot!) is trying to help speed things up. 9 years without a hitch even made me buy a stack(!) of back-up copies. ISA, you know...

Hmm, the only ones I can find are selling for well over $100?! Well, if you try the seller of the item number I listed earlier, you'll see that he has a new batch of 5 available... (NEW Item number: 180142883804) And another one just closed for $30...(!) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320139816771&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011 - EDIT: Well, you'd better be quick if you want some of those... gone again... BTW, that guy who keeps buying them seems to be _really_ in love with them, he has bought almost every single one so far....! But, I guess there'll be a new load ready soon - go for the BiN would be my advice... - Edit2: like I 'promised'.... Item number: 180143095571

So, I bought a second Santa Cruz off of ebay (for about 20 bucks after shipping!)-- Now that these cards are out of production, I thought it would be worth grabbing up a spare-- now that I have mine, I might recommend that anyone else who loves this card or is just curious about it, pick on up while they're still to be had cheap After several years of relying on a Turtle Beach Riviera sound card for digital audio, I've finally gone back to using my old Santa Cruz -- and the difference is breathtaking! I've never had it installed in my WinXP machine in the past (only under Win98SE), and TB's XP drivers seem to be very stable. So Alistair, if you're reading this, feel free to throw the "I told you so's" back at me. You were definitely right about the quality of the Santa Cruz over the Riviera! I would have to say that in my 24-years as a computer user, the Santa Cruz is still the best sound card I've ever owned.

Is there anyone who got the Santa Cruz onboard effects like Reverb working with the daughterboard or line-in mixer-inputs?

I have, as far as the LINE-IN mixer. (I don't have a daughterboard connected.) All of my music gear is coming from an external source into the Santa Cruz Line IN, and both EFFECT 1 and EFFECT 2 work properly. My external mixer has better effects so I use that, instead. But, I also have an external radio/tape deck/phono connected and was playing around with the Santa Cruz's effects using both LINE IN and Versa Jack's ANALOG IN jacks. Works fine.

Hi Tom, I got effects working with line-in now, but still have no luck with the DB50XG, which I attached to the card. Appearantly the santa cruz can't add effects to daughterboards, at least not according to this PDF from TBS: http://ftp://ftp.turtlebeach.com/pub/tbs/santacru/sc_outs.pdfThen again, this also says that line-in is not affected by effects. I wonder what that's all about... locutus

Hmmm....I can understand not supporting the DB with effects, but why would they not, supposedly, support the LINE IN connection? Anyway, whether or not they know, or care to admit it, LINE IN is affected.
