I have successfully installed my new AWE64 Gold into my Windows 98SE machine.  While it works very well, there is this odd issue.  When playing midi or OPL, the mixer will shift the balance all the way to one speaker.  In order to get stereo sound, you have to manually slide the mixer in the volume control.  Each time you start up the midi, it will shift the slider back to one speaker.  Anyone else encounter this issue?  Win98 automatically detected the card and installed its own drivers, which should be about as current as they get.

I haven't had that particular problem, but I've found in general that the "Creative WaveSynth/WG", which for some reason was automatically installed, makes the system completely unstable, causing random crashes and maybe other strange symptoms. I've since disabled it in the device manager and had no further problems.
