Tom's at work and our site has not propogated, yet, to his location.   He asked me to write a short message.  We had some glitches along the way, but the board is now working thanks to the wonderful support we're getting from our new host (a plug:  HostNine.com).

He'll have a long story to tell you tomorrow morning.  Sooner if the site propogates to his work computers.  Thanks to you all for your patience during this difficult period.  Our stomachs have been in knots for the past two days.  I had to move five sites and get them all in working order.  One site still has a problem, but we're on the mend.  My site still doesn't have a forum, but we're workin' on it.

Cheers to all of you!

Wow!  Glad to hear everything is okay.  I've been frequenting QuestStudios for over a decade now and I just actually registered to post a few days ago and I was worried that all might have been lost!  Such a treasure!

Everything seems to be intact so far, here on the forums, though I haven't yet had a chance to check all of the links, site-wide.

Apparently, a hacker got into my email account and was using it for spamming.  Instead of informing me of the problem, our old hosting service just decided to terminate my account.  (It could have been easily remedied by disabling the hacked email account.)  So, queststudios.com was in limbo for a day while I searched for a new host.  My wife (Dianne) was also pissed at the old hosting service for not informing us of the problem and thought she better get all of the sites she hosts to a new server as well.  So, that's what been going on the last couple of days.  QuestStudios.com is comletely intact now after the move (though I have to update a couple of things yet.)

I'm on a dialup connection right now, from work and don't have much time.  I can't reach queststudios.com on our hospital's DSL equiped PC's yet, and I can't FTP into my account from here.  I'll try to get things put back in place before I leave for work on Friday morning.

Thank you all for your patience and support during this nightmare.  I really appreciate it!!

Coastinc.

We've been with Coastinc for years, but service has deteriorated over the past year or two.  Lots of problems with email and database service.  We're now with HostNine, a new company.  I've also had an account with Canaca for the past three years, where I store most of the digital files.  (I have 150 GB's of storage with them, which I've used about 3 GB's so far.)

Nice to be back up and running.  As infrequently as I post lately, even a couple days without this place reminds me how, without it, I'd feel kinda homeless on the Internet.  Thanks, Tom and Dianne!

I've already told you what I thought by email and on SMC, but great to see this place back up again.

Seeing the new forum skin reminds me first posting at QS, back in '01 or something.

Maybe a little ipconfig /flushdns will fix your problems at work.
Either that or the hospital's own DNS is slow.  Roll Eyes

Anyway, glad the site is back up, and I'm especially glad the forums did not get hacked,
I was already changing all my accounts which use the same password.

Same here. I sometimes feel like QS is like a cozy little room with a fireplace in a world (the internet) that's changing rapidly around it all the time.  Wink

Thanks, everyone!  This is also, of course, my little cozy feel-good home on the 'net.  Being homeless in cyberspace for even a couple of days made me uneasy.  It's so nice to be back.

I've had a couple of forums I frequent go down due to hacking/dodgy hosting issues before - many great threads were lost due to bad backups.  It's great to see that this one made it back ok!

It'd be very sad to see the great wealth of knowledge scattered over these forums lost.. especially considering all the time some of the members have put into researching various things.

I also had the bad feeling come into me as soon as I was greeted with an error page.

Good to see QS is back  Smiley

I'm glad everything is resolved. Everything about this week for me was bad, so seeing the 404 on the forum (and seeing the 2006 version) gave me a fright.

Man, Queststudios being down put a crink in my surfing routine...

I just want to extend my support as well and, boy, am I glad that you could recover everything. I couldn't understand why someone would hack a music site, but now that you explained that it was an e-mail hacking I guess it makes more sense (in a twisted kind of way, anyway  Undecided).

Anyway, glad to see you back again! Smiley

I would like to stress the difference between hackers and crackers.
Your attack was a cracker attack.

The difference between the two is that a hacker does stuff for fun and not profit and does NOT cause mayhem and destruction.
A cracker may or may not do it for fun and/or profit, and they are generally out to destroy stuff and cause mayhem, and maybe making a few bucks in the process.

The term hacker was just used by the media in the wrong way, without hackers our world would be alot diffrent today.
Companies like Apple and Commodore and Tandy are all companies started by hackers, for hackers. They've sparked the computer revolution and it saddens me that the term is used so negatively today.

Glad to see the forum is back. I wonder who is behind Coastinc as I have a little ...something... for them.
