Any suggestions on how to silence an EL inverter? It's quite small in size, so I'm considering encapsulating it in high-temp hot glue. Does anyone have any experience doing this, or caution against?

I say gopher it.  You might want to figure out exactly which component is making the noise (prod the board with a chopstick or something) and then just glue that one. Or failing that, at least not encapsulating components that look like they want to emit heat (like the heatsinked one Smiley)

The whine is most probably caused by the inductor reel already highlighted in the picture. Since the whine usually comes from loose coils on the outside, a few dabs of hot glue across the coils should suffice. No need to completely cover it in gunk.  Wink

Thanks, guys.

The transformer is definitely the culprit here. I'll try just a few dabs of glue first, to see if that does the trick.

If it doesn't, perhaps I'll take up Tom's suggestion and "break it down" with MC Hammer. Wink
