I mean, seriously, who would cough up £113 for a Roland LAPC-I? I may like to collect this stuff, but I sure as hell would not pay that much!

Last week I paid £110 including P&P for a Roland Sound Canvas 88 ST Pro which I think is far more valuable than the LAPC-I Undecided

going from past auctions (and there was another similar to this that went for the same) - it appears this is about it's price.

For those in the know, there is nothing this has over a CM-32L tho.  Maybe they just really wanted a LAPC as a kid?

Getting an old ISA card is a big mistake. I bought a SCC-1 many years ago for $400 and the stupid thing is now collecting dust as I just replaced it with its external equivalent, a SC-55. My MT-32 and my SC-55 can be moved to any new computer I get. But my SCC-1 and that LAPC-I 'forces' you to use an ancient computer just to get any use out of them.

here's the auction Kreatorb was talking about:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Roland-LAPC-I-LAPC-1_W0QQitemZ170171038871QQihZ007QQcategoryZ3701QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

a few months back someone sold the card AND the breakout box (both in original packaging) and together they went for over 300 USD.

 Huh

(...notes to self should he ever decide to sell his...)

I guess $55 was a good price for my LAPC-I all those years ago. Tongue

It was worth every single penny, although the SC-55 mode isn't even 90% compatible with a real SC-55/CM-300/SCC-1, meaning my CM-300 is still sitting on my desk Sad

Here's another LAPC-I for EUR 152,44. Exactlys my setup btw (inkl MCB-I). Somehow good to know - they're getting more expensive every day Wink. But I will keep my precious  - paid exactly 864,40 DM for my brand new LAPC-I (in 1992).

I can't tell you how glad I am to be out of the sound card rat race when I hear about the increasingly inflated prices of the Roland cards.  These days, I only need one.

And I thought the prices of ISA-based cards would go down, nobody bothers with ISA machines any more...

I paid ~60 € for my LAPC-I, complete with box, manuals and MCB-I. The previous owner bought it in 1990 for 949,90 DM. Cheesy

Nice article! Enjoyed reading it  Grin

For some reason the download from www.lotek64.com always resulted in a 0-byte PDF file, so I got a copy from www.c64-mags.de.

During reading the article it occured to me that the "inflated" prices for the Roland cards must seem rather cheap for someone who bought the hardware back in the 90s...
Now I can get a LAPC-I for about the same money I paid for a shoddy Sound Blaster in 1991. Roll Eyes

Don't worry about that, even roland got it wrong sometimes.  Roll Eyes

Still doesn't work here.
But I got it from that other site.

The german was a bit too difficult for me, so I dropped it for some other time.  Roll Eyes

http://www.c64-mags.de/download/lotek64/Lotek64_14.zip

Just drop me a line if I can help with the German *.txt...

BTW: Perhaps I'll translate my story into English someday...

Thanks,

I can usually read german, but I have to concentrate, and I was too tired.   Cheesy
As a Dutchman, I come in contact with German enough, I just did not pay enough attention in school.  Roll Eyes

Edit: I've just read it, nice article!

Netter Artikel! Smiley Da kommt ja richtig Nostalgie auf.... und ich wusste nicht mal, dass Jan Hammer die PQ3 Musik komponiert hat.

Back to English - I hate to nitpick, but the MT-32 isn't really an external version of the LAPC-I, the latter has more sounds, so the corresponding external module would be the (less known) CM-32L.

Dankeschön Smiley

Irgendwie geht die Datei bei mir nicht. Es heißt "The file is damaged and could not be repaired", selbst beim Extrahieren aus der 1mb .zip. Gibt's die im Quellformat? Ich übersetz sie auch ins Englische. Smiley
