I have read that there are differences between what the AWE32 passes through its SPDIF connector and the AWE64 passes through its SPDIF connector.  The first difference is that the AWE32 only outputs an 18-bit signal while the AWE64 outputs a 20-bit signal.  Second, the AWE32 only outputs EMU-8000 & OPL while the AWE64 outputs EMU-8000, OPL/CQM & digitzed audio.  Here is where I read this information from, is it correct?

I think they both just output a 16-bit signal. Just plain ol' CD quality 16Bit/44,1KHz

Any info anywhere on the SB32's SPDIF out? I finally made a cable today and hooked it up to my Audigy2 and it reads the signal as 16 bit, 44.1 kHz. I can only get sound from the EMU-8000 though. No OPL...

Hmm, I think I figured out why I get no OPL sound. It seems like they added a separate DAC for the FM synth, the YAC512.

While all AWE32s and most later 16s had their OPL cores integreated into the bus controller chip, a few SB32s actually sport a real, separate YMF-262 OPL3 chip.  These cards would pass their output through the YAC-512 DAC, not the EMU-8000.
