Oh. Ho-ho-ho ! I didn't get it at first, because the decimal separator for us in France is the comma : in my head it was "about $246", which seemed a bit high for a MT-32

How many square feet? It looks a bit small for my needs and would make my commute to work even worse than it is now.

I hope that the prices in Oklahoma are better than they are elsewhere in the country. Still, I would think that 100k should net you two a rather nice place. We've already accepted an offer, after only nine days on the market. Our real-estate agent seems surprised. This is all very well and good, however, since we're moving in ~10 days...

Good luck with the move; they're always such a pain-in-the-butt.
In my povershed area of the country, you can get a pretty nice place for 100k. Houses here simply don't move, as there's nothing to attract anyone to live in Oconto, Wisconsin. There IS a plus, though. Low taxes.

They've fallen in the last 6 months, I think Tulsa crashed by 55% My in-laws' "upper-middle" class quite excellent house is apparently worth only $115,000- given that the fairly standard house I'm staying in now is worth more than $200K (US 175K), because of the real estate price jump in the last 3 years, I'm pretty happy about moving to the States. This is a 'cheap' State, South Australia, and the average is around 300K (US 260K). Not cheap. I'm very happy to hear you guys found a nice place!! Still, you owe me an email when this is all over - Alistair

Holy CRAP, didn't realize WA was that expensive. That house would probably be way low $100s in Tulsa County. So yeah.... Alistair, what part of T-County you moving to, or are you already here?!? You should look into Owasso, place is friggen BOOMIN!!! $225-$250 would get your 3,000 sq/ft here http://www.realtor.com/search/searchresults.aspx?ctid=2440&mnp=23&mxp=22&typ=1

Not that it matters, but here's the new storage repository for the MT-32 that NOBODY even offered to buy... We're still working on the landscaping, all of which was done at our expense (sweat, blood, etc...). I'm not sure what it is with the area, but it seems like I discover a new (to me) bug species every single day. Bird-sized dragonfly...check Daring Jumping Spider...check (These things are actually pretty awesome.) Praying Mantis...check Bizarre, comical beetle-thing...check Two-inch long centipede...check Butterflies aplenty...check On-and-on-and-on-and-on... Not to mention the various scorpions and tarantulas that I know are around... Oh, and then there was the large bird that hovered like a hummingbird in midair. I'd never seen anything like that before. It's like Animal Kingdom, right in my own backyard.

Just on a side note, did you experience any difficulties financing the house because there is such a big crisis in the US? With Freddie Mercury and Bernie Mac and whatever being "saved". (You know which banks I mean. ) Looks like those stupid interest-lowering shenanigans of the FED is finally starting to bite them in the ass.

We went with a (traditional) fixed-rate, 30-year mortgage, with 20 percent down. This type of loan tends to be fairly safe, from a lending perspective. We're not safe from falling home values, however. We bought in an area that is retaining its value better than the rest of the state, but prices continue to drop... Looks like those stupid interest-lowering shenanigans of the FED...
Rates weren't necessarily the problem - the lenders got greedy. There were a great many people who received loans that, flat-out, should never have been approved. And now the lenders are looking for bailouts...
