Just got my hands on a GUS MAX rev 2.1 to my collection but not sure how to set the jumpers correctly since I've only had a GUS Classic previously, I've located the base adress jumper which I also have on my GUS Classic but the GUS MAX has some additional IRQ jumpers I'm not sure how to set...can anyone with the knowledge about these cards give me some help?

aright! thanks!  Wink

The IRQ jumpers seems to be for setting the interupts for the cd-rom interfaces on the card
Had some troubles with the GUS setup software, none of the IRQ's was accepted....or they froze my PC when I tested them  Angry

Didn't it came with the manuals and quick guide ?
I've got a compete Ultrasound Max here, too bad do not have a scanner for scanning the manual, sorry.
But I can provide you the info you may need.

Btw., the Max is verry tricky to install.
Fist the Bios optios have to be correct, 8bit IO must have more prio than 16bit IO.
It took me ages to figure this one out because the fist two old machine i did the testing with didn't have this option and gave this kind of problems.

Just gort the card and some cd containing demos from Assembly '95, lol

My bios doesn't seem to have option for those I/O settings...it's an AST desktop PC with a pentium 1 200mmx

Not sure what settings to bother with except the base adress which I've set to 240 so it won't conflict with my Soundblaster 16

Can you please check in your manual if I disable the IRQ's for the cd-rom interface by just changing or removing the jumpers?

From the install guide :
To disable all CD-Rom interfaces install a jumper clip on JP3.

Remember now that my problems were with the DMA adresses.
If the IO is too fast the GUS Max can't handle it.

does it say where jumper 3 is located? can't seem to find any jumper 3 on my card

Edit: problem solved  Grin

Seems like I have another rev of the board than you have so I had to fiddle with the jumpers according to the webpage Great Hierophant mentioned
Now the card lives happily in my box alongside my SB16+DB60XG

Euh, ah yes, thats very likely.
I bought this one the moment these were for sale here so its posible this is one an old MAX revision.  (Ahh,.. found it, REV 1.7)
Maybe thats why this one has timing problems with more recent systems. (> pentiums)

Nice setting you've got there. Haven't got a XG card. Still searching for that one.

I've got a GUS MAX revision 1.8 here and it works fine in my Pentium 2 machine. I gather this timing bug was just in the 1.7 and that 1.8 fixed it.

Tried it on a pentium 120 and 166 but no luck. My latest machine a celeron 400 was no problem after finding this option.

Right now I'm having problems with a GUS Max rev 1.8 in a newly built 486DX4 100mhz, the card worked perfectly in a Shuttle HOT PCI socket 3 motherboard which was very buggy
the GUS midi music just hangs the system after playing 8-10 seconds  Tongue

Why do you think so many revisions were made, and why Gravis gave up on the sound card market? Wink

Hey, could You post the jumper settings for the GUS 3.4?

I have one, but I lack the manual.

JP1 has four numbers: 4-5-6-7
JP5/6/8/9 have also four choises, which are not numered, but I guess they are read from left to right...

Thanks in beforehand.

Edit:
I found the following already:
