Hi everyone! It's been quite long since I posted a message in QS , but I'm back here again I've got a CM-32P midi module here, but as I have no use for it since long ago, I've decided to part with it and give it to someone who could give it some use. I suppose you already know that it's basically a cut-down version of the Roland U-110 (PCM synthesis, 6 channel multitimbral, 31-voice polyphony and so on). It has very few voices (64 presets and an expansion card slot), and AFAIK it's pretty useless for gaming (only a few X68000 games use it, as long as you've also got a MT-32/CM-32L -CM-64 compatibility-), but it can be useful for music composition. Instrumental voices are surpringly good for its age (better than the SC-55 ones, honest!), and PCM expansion cards, SN-U110-xx series, are really good, if you're lucky enough to find them and they ask you a reasonable price. I'll give the unit for free, but the recipient has to pay shipping. Given that I'm in Spain and the current Euro-dollar exchange rate, this can be quite a lot of money (it can easily reach US $45-50). Greetings to everyone in QS!

I'd be interested, but have to admit that apart from playing around with it, I don't really have much use for it. Would be nice to have something to complement the CM-32L, though

I would pay the shipping costs to Hungary (my country), but I don't deserve it: I'm no musician and would only use it with the after-marked U-110 drivers for certain Sierra games. But if nobody else want it, count me in!

What are these drivers you speak of?

Thanks a lot for you interest! Although it's not the most useful and versatile synth in the world, I suppose any of you would use it more than me (I haven't turned it on for months).
Hey endre1952, I'm afraid that if you intend to use the CM-32P for playing data programmed for the U-110, it won't work, because although both models share lots of patches and waveforms, they aren't organized the same way (for instance, preset #20 of the U-110 doesn't correspond to preset #20 of the CM-32P). So as I said before, it's of very little use for gaming, despite being quite good for music composing (especially if you haven't more modern and powerful synths).
Best regards.

Not to be rude, but I did think you were mistaken.

I am interested, I was just being straight forward about not being a musician, so the closest I will come to composing is just experimenting with the device.

I am also interested, I would enjoy using the device to play some of those X68000 games, like Gemini Wing, Sol Feace, Axis. It will also go superbly with my CM-32L.

OK, so here there are two people (Laust and Great Hierophant) who are interested in the module. Unfortunately, I only have got one unit I'd prefer I hadn't to choose between you, so could it be possible to know who could have a greater or stronger interest in it? I'd like to send it to who would consider it to be more useful for him. Just as an orientation, shipping to Denmark is EUR 32, whereas shipping to the States is (surprisingly) "only" EUR 30 (around US$ 47).

How do you quantify something like that? But to be more precise, since I never had a CM-32P or compatible, I'm curious what the unit can do. That's what makes me interested. I would also like the opportunity to open the unit and save the contents of the ROM chips for posterity, like I did with the CM-32L.

It's sort of like a forerunner to GM. If one were to add all of the expansion cards at once (if it were possible) you'd get a sc-55 basically, but with better sounds.

As an owner of a CM-64, I can tell you the CM-32P part has a lot of potential, even by today's standards. the 64 internal sounds are pretty good for the most part, slightly better than the SC-55. The problem is, the sound catagories are very limited. You have 9 different types of piano patches, 5 or 6 bass patches, 4 different saxes, 5-6 types of brass, trumpets etc. The areas in which it's the most limited is with strings, guitars and other wind instruments. No clarinets, no oboes etc. However, because the MT-32 or CM-32L oboe and clarinet are so good, the combination of the two modules makes the CM-32P very worthwhile. If you acquire a few SN-U110 cards to supplement it, you can do quite a bit with this module. It's a shame it only has one expansion slot. I posted this theme from LSL3 a while ago. I think it shows where the CM-32P really shines.
