Just got my first Roland CM-500 but someyhing is weird with it (or me, lol) When I set it in mode "A" to CM-300 + CM32L mode at play some Roland LA compatible games they sound all wrong compared to how an MT32 or my CM32L sounds. Is the CM-500 just "a bit compatible" with the CM32L + MT32 or is there something wrong with my CM-500?
Edit: it's mostly the Sierra titles that sound diffrent
The Lucastarts games sounds as they should, using Mode B

The easiest thing to do is use Mode B for MT-32/CM-compatible games, and Mode C for GS/GM-compatible games. With Mode A, both the LA and GS sound-sources are active for MIDI channels 2-10. If knob switching isn't your thing, you could write executables that include the necessary SysEx to effectively disable either the LA or GS parts. it's mostly the Sierra titles that sound diffrent If SCI0 Sierra games sound incorrect in Mode B, you'll need to use a later version of MT32.DRV.

The earlier driver does not set the CM-32P parts to "off," which becomes an issue when using either a CM-64 or CM-500.

You may already have a copy of this same driver in another SCI0 game directory, but, if not... http://cloudschatze.googlepages.com/MT32.DRV

The newer driver doesn't want to work with Police Quest 3, game doesn't start but it doesn't hang or crash... I just get the black screen with the big, white mouse pointer when it's suppose to initialize the Roland unit

Police Quest 3 isn't an SCI0 game. The driver that came with PQ3 should work just fine.

Hmm. I don't suppose it sounds something like this, perchance? Police Quest 3 - Exc. Checksum Error
