I've read somewhere you ca go into different modes like "MT-32 mode" with Yamaha's DB50XG and DB60XG
Does anyone know how to do this?

I know the MU100R has a "C/M" mode, which emulates the CM-64 (rather poorly at that). I'll have to see if I can dig out the sysex - I'm guessing the DB50XG/MU10/SW60XG will have this mode too.

All I know of is the T300B-mode which is a GS compatible mode, it goes into this mode when it receives a GS-reset.

From that site:

Quote
5 Monkey Island on the Yamaha DB50XG was recorded using bank 127 of the DB50XG's TG-300B mode, which offers an instrument layout compatible with the MT-32.

Obviously this will only work with the standard patches, like Monkey Island 1 uses.

Okay, I admit.  Wink I made that recording after noticing an MT-32 compatible bank in the DB50XG's manual. I think I used a GS reset first, to evoke the TG-300B mode as mace pointed out, and then did a bank switch to bank nr. 127 on every channel. I have dug up the .MID file I had made to achieve this and asked the admins of the comparison page to upload it. You can find the file here. Coincidentally, it should work with an SCC-1 or similar as well.

Correct, it isn't really useful apart from satisfying your curiosity.

Roland's own "MT-32 emulation" MIDI file can also be used.

Sorry for digging out this old thread, but

I got the NCR rebuild of the DB60XG, which is 100% identical as far as I know.
I can't get the MT32 switching running there. It seems to have no effect.
I tried
gsplay.exe MT32
which worked for SCB-55 and I also tried running the MT32emul.mid

There seems to be no difference between normal GM set DB60XG and MT32 set DB60XG.
There was some difference between DB60XG and DB50XG except the Line-In capability.
Could it be that they left the MT32 compatible soundbank out for the DB60XG ?!?

Someone knows?

I dunno.

I can try it out though, I've got a NEC DB60XG too.
