I'm just hooking up my CM-32L from scratch after some time.... and, well, this might sound a bit dumb, but how can I tell left from right? Since I'm combining the two leads into my soundcard's line-in, I'm not sure which way round they should be. Do you guys know a game or just a MIDI file that I could use for testing this?

Thanks Huh Tongue

Quest For Glory II.

If, during the introduction, the sounds/visuals of the djinni clasping the mountain match your speaker placement, you have it hooked-up "correctly." (You'll want to reverse it for most Sierra games...) Smiley

Thank you Cloud! That worked. Well, it worked once I realized I had set my MIDI sound to the Audigy's software synth.... no wonder the theme tune was sounding so crappy Tongue

Why's that?

Why's that?

Sierra's musicians composed to the MIDI specification, according to Mark Seibert, and since the MT-32 has a reversed panpot implementation (as compared to the spec), the left and right output cables need to be swapped for proper playback of most of Sierra's MT-32-supporting games.

I'm not sure if it was the involvement of Chris Braymen, or what, but QFGII seems to be an exception to the reversal rule (at least as far as the introduction sound-effects are concerned).
