The first releases of King's Quest IV, Versions 1.000.106 &  1.000.111 with dates of 9/19/88 & 9/24/88, had unique CGA graphics drivers.  They are named CGA320C.DRV and CGA320BW.DRV.  Later versions of this game and all other versions of other games came with the same drivers, but the colors displayed are different.

With the old CGA320C.DRV, the colors are cyan, red, white and a blue background.  The newer CGA320C.DRV gives light cyan, light red, high intensity white with a black background (which the EGA/MCGA/Tandy drivers also give.)  The dithering algorithm is different for each driver.

With the old CGA320BW.DRV, the foreground color is blue, the background color is black.  The newer CGA320C.DRV gives high intensity white with a black background (which the EGA/MCGA/Tandy drivers also give.)  The dithering algorithm is different for each driver.

These are the intended colors and the ones which will be seen with an IBM CGA connected to a color monitor.  If the IBM CGA card is connected to a composite monitor or TV, the graphics will appear in 4-color grayscale with any CGA320C.DRV or 2-color grayscale with any CGA320BW.DRV.

On the sound side, it appears that Space Quest III, which has a driver for the Tandy DAC chip for digitized audio reprodiction ("Where am I?" in the introduction) will also work if the Sound Blaster driver from King's Quest I SCI is also used.

Oh ?! I'll have to test the "where am I" thing, I thought it was missing from the PC versions...

Maybe I should put some new life into my SCI fixes page. With everyone using DosBox these days, shifting the focus from Timer Fixes to general game patches might be worthwhile, as DosBox users might appreciate things like OPL3 stereo FM capabilities as well.

Then they would also realize that the digital samples have always been in SQ3 all along.

I've also got an unreleased KQ4 update, that adds the great environmental sound effects from the Amiga version.

Indeed, I know of several who would appreciate that.

Did any Sierra games other than KQ4 have environmental sound effects in their Amiga versions?

Great idea, I'd like to see an update of your site indeed Smiley

LOL!  I remember when I first bought SQ3 - I'd first noticed the intro on a Tandy 1000TL (with DAC) and heard the voice...  "Where am I?"

I waited with extreme eagerness as my Tandy 1000SX + Adlib ground away at the 5.25" floppy only to have it pass by without speech.  I was nearly heartbroken.  Sad

You know the reason why it's not released --- some of the sound effects aren't working, and I'm stuck at finding out why.

As I said before: draw a "BOTH" button for the control panel, both as a normal and as a pressed-down graphic, and add it as another loop to view 947 (947.v56). I think SCI Studio VGA should allow you to do that.

Really? And the game will automatically use it as a third option?

NewRisingSun:
1. What about the KQ4 patch that adds the AMIGA environmental sounds?
2. Is it possible to write SCI driver for the CGA Composite mode that will use 16 colors? (It is kind of absurd that KQ4 AGI looks much better than KQ4 SCI on a CGA).
