How did you launch each AGI game so quickly?
It made sense to do this for the video, rather than waste time in-between games (the little camera I used has a ridiculous, 3-minute recording limit). I'm not sure if there is a switch to disable the joystick auto-detection, else I'd have used that as well...

The joystick auto-detection will not appear if you disable the joystick interface in hardware, otherwise I don't believe there is a switch for it.

There aren't any difficulties getting software to work, per se, it's more a question of the entire experience. The base RLX will run any Sierra or LucasArts game that supports 3-voice sound, as-is. (Let's not be delusional though - some of these games are barely "playable" on any 286...) Any other 286-based Tandy requires at least the addition of a VGA card to do the same thing, and will still lack the additional speed and memory of the RLX.

I have talked with Cloud, and both Sierra AGI and SCUMM v1-2 games seem to work on this setup.  That is great!

Here are some astoundingly crummy videos...

Tandy 1000RLX - Sierra On-Line, AGI Intro Medley
Tandy 1000RLX - Maniac Mansion Introduction
Tandy 1000RLX - Maniac Mansion Enhanced Introduction
Tandy 1000RLX - Zak McKraken Introduction (Partial)

Wicked cool!  I thought the 1000RLX was VGA and wouldn't run Tandy1000 graphics modes... or were those early Sierra games smart enough to see EGA and still use Tandy sound??

I want one!

They were smart enough, eventually, to realize that some people did upgrade their Tandys' graphics.  Therefore if you use a late version Sierra AGI game, it will work fine using the -t command line argument.

Unnecessary.

Heh...  after doing a little more digging, what I *really* want is one of those 386SX "R" models...

25W and totally fanless...  talk about ahead of their time!  Now you need an Atom to do that.

I wouldn't recommend the RSX as a primary Tandy...

The "3-voice" port in the RSX (and 2500) had to be moved from 0xC0 to 0x1E0, breaking sound-compatibility with almost all software.

ROFL The speakers are not retro enough. You need to buy square, boxy looking ones in beige/white cheap plastic color. Give yourself 100 points if the speakers are "Realistic" brand.  Cheesy

Give yourself 10 bonus points if you can remember the scene depicted on the monitor screen.  Cheesy

Took me a very long time to finally give up using my old Tandy keyboard -- such a nice, solid feel.  I often ponder cleaning it up and using it again, but I've grown so accustomed to using the multimedia buttons on these newer keyboards...

If it's anything like the classic IBM PS/2 keyboard (which it bears a striking resemblance to), then I can understand why. I use one of those, but only at home (try it at work and you risk angry stares from passers by, I suspect! Smiley). It's not exactly a silent keyboard.

On the upside, it has excellent tactile feedback and personally, I don't miss the extra (Windows) buttons.

i would love to use one of those at home, but I have both a PC and a Macbook ... and the Windows key gets translated to the Command key through my KVM.  The Command key is pretty much a requirement so I couldn't live without it.  I know a company makes newer boards in that style with those keys, but I'm not willing to spend $70 for it.

But you're right, i've had a couple of those Tandy boards and well as an honest true blue (ha ha) IBM Model M.  They are awesome boards, I'd live with the noise.

Bringing this topic back from the dead. I stumbled upon my old copy of DeskMate's User Guide while doing some closet cleaning (scanning time!). Companies don't make manuals like these anymore. Full with hand drawn pictures, mouse tutorials, PC-Link!

TANDY Deskmate - Getting Started Manual.rar 48MB

If this breaks any forum rules please let me know.
