After some accidental damage last week, it looks as though my beloved CM-500 may be out of commission Sad  I originally had an extra spare unit, but after recently moving can no longer locate it anywhere, and it looks like it may have inadvertently gotten tossed out with the move with a lot of the stuff we disposed of.

Since it can be very challenging to even find a CM in good condition on e-bay, just thought it couldn't hurt to inquire here in case anyone had an extra CM-500, or one they no longer needed and would possibly be willing to sell, that have the requested specs below.  ** Also since I know they're very rare and highly valued, I would be more than happy to pay a premium for one that's in the following condition:

  • Rev. 2 (has both the GM/GS logos)
  • No case yellowing
  • Near-Mint or Mint condition, with no or very little case wear/scratches

Any and all PMs would be deeply appreciated -- thanks!

Repair isn't an option?

Thanks for the helpful suggestion Cloud -- actually I do have copies of the CM-500 service and technical notes which may assist.  Any idea what kinds of shops or places to take it to that would be able to make repairs that would be needed?

I have a copy of the Service Notes as well. I'd offer to troubleshoot it for you, but since you haven't mentioned what, exactly, is wrong with it, I can only imagine that it's in some sort of horrible, disastrous state. Smiley

Unless it's something easily fixed (again, lacking details), my suggestion is to call the Roland US support line, get an RMA, and send it to them to repair. Last time I checked, the hourly labor rate was around $80, which is a lot, but still less than you would spend replacing the unit. One additional benefit to having them do the work is that you can request that they install the latest ROM (1.02 for the CM-500, I believe), which they ought to do for no charge.

I dunno how you're gonna find a CM-500 with no yellowing... I've got two of them, but both have considerable amount of yellowing. I do have a CM-300 that still appears amazingly white. I honestly don't care about yellowing, all that matters to me is the sound! BTW, I'm sorry, but I'd prefer to hang onto to the two CM-500 units.

Thanks for the helpful info Cloud -- I will try to get in touch with the Roland support line to see if they can assist, since I am not familiar with how to fix the hardware components.  (The case got fractured badly and the some of the internal components appeared to have become damaged.)
